Tal.....our mailboxes are the same with traffic. One has to be hyper-vigilant when driving there. I agree that people drive wayyyyy too fast (they do it as well in other parking lots). Then there's the ones who drive there to "walk" their pooches....but that's a whole other thread!!

I think I'm in lower age bracket so I have to laugh when people say it's so '1980's' to go to the post office and retrieve mail. In my case, back home, sure I could go paperless but I'm a big believer in frequenting downtown or Main St. businesses. Also having face to face interactions with my neighbors and community. Some prefer TOTV type interactions or electronic communication. I brought this point up in a different post recently...when was the last time someone had their identity stolen or account hacked or compromised using snail mail? Sure we're all vulnerable but again, lets have a balance....and not make it so easy for those who have different intent

Mailing checks are different. I dislike having to get checks in the mail, instead of direct deposit, & I hate having to send a check through the mail. I always fret that it will be stolen en route. In the days when all bills were paid by sending a check through the mail, you stood a chance that yours would get through the crush, now they are infrequent so stand out & are more vulnerable.

IMO between 4 and 6 PM the postal station parking lot and street leading to them are the most dangerous areas in villages. :shrug:

Now you know why there are so many widows here. The female of the species can be quite deadly.

Personal shredder or fire pit....remember, the easiest house to rob or car to steal are the ones with the keys in them. People still dumpster dive and most PO don’t use cameras....still!

I have the service, but you still need to empty the box occasionally. If I had a choice, I would cancel mail delivery service. But, as long as the courts and the IRS can use the USPS for official delivery and legal notification, we are all stuck with monitoring our mailbox. The simple solution would be to allow cancellation and to return all mail to the sender with a notice that the account has been cancelled. But, that would save too much taxpayer money and may put the USPS out of business.
