Started with ASI in 2005, stayed with Progressive after their purchase of ASI.

My house is quite similar, Bogie. So far I have Cabrillo and happy with them. Just an alternative if you want to look into them.

The stock market has tainted so many businesses for passable pricing. Don't you know everyone needs a 10% cut of everything you do or purchase? I personally think the market is the downfall of this country.

You can't unless your mortgage is paid off.

Here are some YouTube videos about homeowners that have self insured.

You use your money to replace it, that simple.

I don't understand why insurance companies are not reaching out to people in areas like TV where the risk of hurricane damage is so much lower than all the homes within a few miles of the coast. You would think that these policies would be used to offset the risk with other policies in real hurricane areas? Or are they just getting out of the state completely?

Welcome to the club, we got the same non renewal letter from Farmers for our policy that runs through November. Be prepared for a significant premium increase and very few companies even willing to give you a quote. Our house was built in 1996, but is in outstanding condition, got a brand new roof last February, and has a current wind mitigation report. This homeowners problem is very real with no evident solutions in sight.

Got the same notice of non-renewal from Farmer's. A bit puzzled - I got the same non-renewal letter from Farmer's last year. While I was looking around for a replacement, a new contract shows up from Farmer's with minimal increase in premium. Hopefully, this will happen again.

They indicated that they weren’t telling people until 3 months in advance. I expressed my displeasure at not being informed when they knew. They didn’t care. Sigh ….

Insurance companies are pretty CUT-THROAT in the manner that they deal with customers. Many people are always calling for "less government". It seems to me that an INDIVIDUAL is powerless against BIG Corporations. So, that is when you need a BIG government or a BIG union to work for YOU. You don't need them, until you NEED them.

We don't need "big government". We just need the government we have to enforce the laws they pass.

The same year Florida passed the law that said an insurance company can't reject or cancel a serviceable roof less than 15 years old, American Integrity doubled my premium and added a rider that REMOVED my 13-year-old roof that had just been inspected the previous year. The insurance commission simply ignored all my complaints.

Look at all the complaints on TOTV about insurance companies refusing to insure a 10-year-old roof. Do you think they could do that if they were the least bit concerned about a government fine?

We wouldn't need stupid laws if we didn't have such stupid, crooked insurance companies. You ought to get a DISCOUNT for an older roof. Does Allstate charge MORE to insure a 15-year-old car than a new one? Of course not. Why? Because even stupid Allstate is not dumb enough to sell a "full replacement" auto policy!

I might expect "full replacement cost" if my entire roof was blown away. But why would anyone expect a new roof when the old one isn't even leaking? And how dumb does an insurance company have to be to agree to a scam like that? I don't think they are. I think they must be in on the scam, somehow.

It appears that most insurance companies don’t take into account that The Villages is several miles from either coast and their (insurance company) risk from hurricanes is very low.
