Like the music in that. Looks like something you would see at entrances to the Pentagon and other government facilities. |
Is there such a thing as a flexible, spring loaded, or "soft" gate? That sounds like a good business opportunity.

100,000 plus 55 and over people = all the problems you have mentioned. AND a constant state of agitation. Just think about it.

The people on this thread who don't carry insurance? The people who don't park at the outer bounds of the parking lot where it's safer? How did we get here if we didn't understand how the world works? Nobody was born here. |
That is an excuse. If you have that problem then you probably should not be driving.

The person that said they couldn't really see the gate arm, it didn't show up well enough

You know I don't know what the solution is, but the few times I've been at gates I see somebody going thru the gates correctly by using the gate card, then the person behind them actually will sit there until that person passes the gate then tries to race through the gate. Never seen a gate torn down but these people that try to follow the person ahead of them will hold their hands over their mouths or throw their hands up like, "What Happened". If this is a problem, why doesn't the Villages put up 1 camera at 1 of the biggest problem gates, I know it would be to expensive to put up camera's at all the gates, the Villages spend money on other toys they want, why not 1 camera & this way they could see what's going on, are people not using gate passes, are the ones tearing the gates down Non- Villagers or are they just in to big of a rush to get home to lay on the couch. By the way these security can be rented!

They have cameras at the gates

Break a Gate - Pay $250 Fine
There are cameras at every gate from different angles. Anyone who breaks a gate will be caught on camera and will be found and fined. The fine is $250 per incident. It's a real "eye-opener" for anyone who accidentally (or deliberately) breaks a gate. Cars, carts and bicycles are required to come to a stop before proceeding through a gate for safety reasons (keep speed low enough to avoid hitting carts, bicycles and pedestrians crossing in front of gates). Sometimes it is hard to see the gate when the sun is directly in front of you. Best to just prepare to stop at all gates.

Since we're addressing the topic of gates, I'm wondering if anyone can help me understand something I've tried to comprehend.
I've heard it said that The Villages is not a gated community but rather a community with gates. It's my understanding that the purpose of the gates is to interrupt vehicular traffic so that carts have a chance to cross the roadway. The roads, although perhaps originally private property, are now public property of the county. Therefore no one can be excluded (hence the "non-resident" lane and the "red button" on single lane gated entrances). However, there are some locations where cart traffic is not an issue, but there is still a gate (e.g., Chula Vista and 466 - that one puzzles me). My question is, why does a resident need a gate "card"? Why don't the "entrance" gates work like the "exit" gates. Presumably they serve the same purpose. The gate stays down until a vehicle approaches and then closes again after the vehicle passes. Presumably, that allows at least one cart to cross during the vehicle's delay. Is it a timing issue - a fear that vehicles will crowd the vehicle in front of them and the gate will never close until the last vehicle is through? Whether that's an issue with the exits or not, it doesn't seem to require the use of a card to get "out" past the same cart crossing. What have I misunderstood? |
Lots of posts on this subject, do a search and you will find everyone has a position. Personally, I wouldn't be surprised if the gate cards provide a data base to determine traffic content, visitors, seasonal residents, residents. No fact on that one, just a comment.

Without reading every response to see if this gate has been referred to, I played Bacall this morning and the "residents" side of the gate on Canal St. (not the "visitors" side, mind you) was knocked down this morning; this is becoming more incredible every day.

destroying gates
I was mowing the rough on Kenya golf course, by the restroom on Bonita .A person driving a golf cart drove right thru the gate ,destroyed the gate and kept on driving. A lady in a car behind had to stop and pick up the gate and place it on the side of the road.. I wonder who had to pay for fixing the gate??

I hope it is not vandalism. There was graffiti on the golf cart bridge and someone broke letters off The Villages sign on 466 near Laurel Valley. People destroying things for fun makes me furious. |
Destruction of the gate arms......
We need more guards on the parapets and stock the moats with more gators. Maybe we never should have taken their land and killed all the bison.
|
Wonder what it is costing us to keep them working. At Canal and Stillwater they worked on that one for days and now I see it still doesnt work.
