Default Development along Hwy. 42

There is an effort underway to re-zone land south of hwy. 42 west of The Villages. The request seeks to re-zone approximately 33 acres from rural to medium density residential. This re-zoning request was brought to the zoning board before and was shot-down due a few but very vocal Villagers. The vocal few cited that this development would bring uwanted traffic and would change the rural landscape to which we have become accustomed. Here's the conundrum.......there are those that would like to see more business locate on Hwy. 42 (your favorite restaurant for example). And in the opposing camp, there are those (only a few I think) that are satisfied with no development whatsoever (a strange expectation when living in a "high growth" place like The Villages). Do NOT expect business growth without residential growth. Here's an opportunity to have your voice heard. If you are truly in favor of development of Hwy. 42, attend the hearing and express yourself. Hearings like this are a profound exercise in democracy in the purest sense and without your participation....the tail can and will wag the dog. Stand-up and be heard. Again this year, the property owners adjacent to the WEST side of our community are seeking changes of land use through Marion County of property zoned rural land to medium residential density.

May 2 Before theMarion County Planning Board
May 22 Before the Marion CountyBoard of County Commissioners

All hearing will be held in Ocala at the County Commission Auditorium, McPherson Complex, 601 SE 25th Avenue, Ocala, Florida 34471. You should call for the time and to verify the location. The telephone numbers are 352-438-2600 for Planning Department, and 352-438-2323 for the County Commissioner's offices.
