Default Direct TV

I presently have Direct TV. I called to discontine service (moving in ten days to TV) and was told that if I suspend my account, I won't need to pay for the install and can keep my same plan on a month to month. If I discontinue, then I have to pay for the reinstall and sign a commitment for 24 months.

I like the service now and have no major complaints other than the satellite will go out in storms, snow, etc.

How many of you subscribe to Direct TV in The Villages and are you happy with it? What is the alternative or competition.

Default Use The DirecTV Move Program

If you call the DirecTV 800 number and explain what you're attempting to do, I think they'll suggest that you use their "move" program. What you've been told sounds correct. They'll come out and install a new dish on your house and provide the same equipment as you had up north. Maybe you'd better determine whether you need to take your receivers/DVR's with you or if they will simply install new ones at no cost.

If you upgrade to High Def and/or get High Def or upgraded receivers with a new installation, you will have an additional cost for them. We had TiVo's up north but not high definition TV sets or service. When we purchased new high def sets here and upgraded our DirecTV service, there was an additional charge for the upgraded equipment. But that would be the same whether or not you moved.

By the way, we got absolutely the best prices on new TV sets from Abt TV & Appliance right there in Glenview. Their prices were cheaper than anything we could find locally and they ship free and charge no sales tax. They offered "white glove" service where the delivery driver brought the box box into the room where we wanted it, took the new TV out of the box, set it up, got it connected and running, and removed all the packing material back to the truck. Just like getting local delivery up north, except they actually charge for it there. Write me a message and I'll give you the name of our salesman and his number.
