There's one that goes to Brownwood and dances in a short skirt. When it bends over, you can see the family jewels. I'm told this person also plays ladies softball. :ohdear:

A lot of the people are from surrounding communities. The Squares are open to the public. Our amenity fees do not pay for the music. The funds for the performers come from the square merchants and Sumter County Tourism tax. You will see an increase in residents as the surrounding areas continue to grow.

Shbullet 10-03-2021 11:46 AM

Interesting negative take that some have over people dancing. All squares have a stage for the band that play a lot of music that can be danced to. The squares provide a 500 by 500 foot cement area in front of the stage... So obviously its a dance floor. Why would people have a issue with dancers? Whether they are good dancers or not they seem to me to be having a great time.

If you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. At this stage in life, some are just have more wrinkles than others. 😣😣

Another skips along the square seemingly in her own world. One tall gent stands erect, bending his knee to the music and then spins around and around. Another gent shows good dance moves and then hits the ground on one arm while spinning around. The last is a woman dancing with her partner with the same moves throughout the dance with a lot of gyrating. I truly enjoy watching them all!

Like the "Vicars of TV Land' - a new book coming out soon.

Agree for sure. You just know they are so comfortable dancing with each other.

We were down a few weeks ago, over weight women dancing by herself, throwing her legs up in the air, not wearing a bra. Not a pretty site.

I could but most of them are not entertaining to me so would rather sit and listen and enjoy the band.

Would you sit there and watch another person's old wound with pus coming out for two hours?

I've done it for the last 36 years...

I am the woman who dances by herself and bows at the end. I will be returning to The Villages soon. I hope to see you on the square. Thanks or the compliment.

No I wouldn't because i wouldn't spend that much time watching that prob in a hospital.

Now if I went to the squares to listen to a band knowing there would be many people dancing I wouldn't be shocked or upset by the dancers . Get my drift?

Kenswing 10-04-2021 05:08 PM

We saw the Spinning Cowboy there when we were on our lifestyle visit. He stayed in one spot for an entire song and just spun in a circle. I was sitting down but I had to stop watching him because I was starting to get dizzy. lol

I saw that person dancing at Brownwood in May when I first came to The Villages. Having lived in California for most of my life, I'm well used to things like that but it was a bit jarring seeing it in a place like TV. I suppose in a community of this size, plus non-Villagers coming to the squares, you have to expect anything.

Hope to see you soon. Have a great time. I like to watch the ones clutching pearls over folks having fun.

ChicagoNative 10-05-2021 07:05 AM

If only the non-villagers would just go away…….

On second thought, who would serve your mediocre meals and cocktails? Who would wipe the butts of the old villagers in the assisted living facilities? Who would stock the grocery shelves, and on and on.

Be careful of what you wish for.

What if the villlages had to pay for all their own stuff and got nothing from the county? No more entertainment taxes, no more road improvements, etc.

DLive 10-05-2021 07:12 AM

I have mad respect for anybody who has the nerve to get out there and dance with so many eyes watching. It really is like a stage.

Not sure if it was you or someone else I saw over the weekend at Brownwood, but you are lovely and I enjoyed watching you dance.

I'm pretty sure that villagers pay more than their fair share of property taxes in Sumter County.

But villagers are paying for those services
County only gives back what it takes from County tax payers anyway.
Most villagers are also capable of wiping their own butts as well.:icon_wink:

Would love to see an analysis of what we pay to the county and what comes back. We do pay for county schools and not many kids living here.

dadspet 10-05-2021 10:37 AM

If dancers weren't dancing in the Squares I doubt if the band would be invited back

I would hope its not a surprise (but I think it will be to many from some of the posts I see) BUT Bands at dances/The Squares, for a large part, play music for the dancers and love to have people dance to their music. If you go to the Square and there is no one or only a few dancing I would bet that band won't be invited back. The people in The Squares dancing are getting some exercise, having fun, enjoying life and bring back some of their youth.

At least for me the bottom line is > Believe it or not Our days are numbered, Experiencing life (if you can) is better than watching other live it and if the dancers weren't in the Square dancing there probably wouldn't be many bands playing.

Oh I almost forgot. If you really want to listen to a really good band (with no dancers) check out the Orange Blossom Opry. But beware of the entertainers showing off...they tend to do a nice job, its a really good entertaining show. Its wonderful to be able to experience the variety of amazing talent that's in the area.

What's the point of having The Villages? Why not just live in a regular neighborhood if an "everyone is welcome" mantra is encouraged?
