I really am sheltered. A cart passed me at 22mph and when I went to see my doc about my experience he said was suffering PTSD:eek:

Just wondering if two street-legal vehicles can pass each other on that bridge. Now that the governor has signed the law allowing these vehicles to be classified as golf carts, there will probably be many of them using the golf cart lane on the bridge.

Oh Patty55, you are BAD!!! (Giggle)

Now if no traffic is approaching I will speed things up a bit to just get over the bridge. Wardrobe malfunctions, denture and filling adjustments can be taken care of on the other side. That path has to be the bumpiest path I have ever been on. They must have hired an Ohio construction and engineering crew for that job.

funny an ohio construction company....ya mean there are the same orange barrels since 1988.. on the bridge, like in ohio

Yap, same ones. Here in Ohio they may spend more money replacing the barrels than it would to repair the road. We had one major bridge that had the deck surface replaces. Now when they built the thing it was very smooth and nice to drive over. When they replaced the deck it was so bumpy the thing was a junk yard for car hubcaps. Well the city took so much heat over the condition of the new surface they made the contractor come in a micro grind the entire bridge. Only in Ohio.

If you can't swim, stay out of the water as my father always reminded me. :-)

I should have been more specific that the bridge I find dangerous is the Morse Ave bridge just north of LSL crossing the lake, right next to the car traffic. Not the wooden bridge north of 466. But, OldManTime, I do agree that the wooden bridge changes were needed and good.

Shame

It is a shame that some feel the need to be critical of those who feel something is a problem to them or try to be funny and make light of another persons fear or concern. I guess that in some cases some find it difficult to be positive and add positive feedback and being a critic or a poor funny person is easier. It's a shame as there are some people with real fear or concerns and should be helped and not made fun of. :mornincoffee:

Morse Bridge is totally DANGEROUS!

I'd love to see a separate bridge for golfcarts, going across the water. For safety, it could have a birdcage type enclosure over it. I know, I know, it would be expensive! But wouldn't it be fun and beautiful, and a really unique Villages feature?

This is why we sold our regular golf cart and purchase a street legal just so we wouldn't have to cross that dangerous bridge. What on earth was the developer/designer on when that was constructed....... this is a totally aging population and it gets more and more difficult to navigate such a crossing as we all have another birthday! OMG do something constructive about it!

Here I am. Something serious wrong with me. I just go the speed limit and haven't ever seen anything bad on the bridge. Probably because most people know enough to go SLOWER.

Nobody has answered my question, so I'll ask again. Can two street-legal vehicles pass side by side in the golf cart lane over this bridge? More and more of these vehicles are going to be modified to golf carts now that the governor has signed the law allowing this change.

Another question; the county is responsible for the roadway over the bridge, but can they also be required to address the problems with the walkway and golf cart lane?

It depends. Some of the street legals are the same size as a golf cart, such as the Par Car. Some are larger such as the Gem car. Either can use the same lanes as autos so they can avoid the bridge. I don't think a Gem car would dare venture onto the bridge.

I assume the County can address the problem but the bigger question is, can they fix it?

My understanding is that it was not a request. The bridge was designed and the developer was told that he must add a sidewalk. It wouldn't be up to code without the sidewalk. I think that it has something to do with the fact that if a car breaks down, the driver would have no where to go.

I have a GEM and would never venture across the bridge on the cart path. GEM's are 54" wide compared to a golf cart at 48". However, I've seen other GEM's on the cart path.

travelguy 06-25-2013 07:07 AM

it really seems narrow, and one must be aware of the size of their cart and drive accordingly. i do not like to cross it, and will be very glad that once the brownwood area is built up i will never have to go up to spanish springs and US 27/441.
