Animal Control can be called (352.689.4400) to catch it or if someone can catch him, have him checked for a microchip. By county ordinance the county gets strays. If no one claims it and it is deemed adoptable, then it gets put up for adoption.

Hopefully there will be a good outcome!

I'm concerned that if someone calls animal control, he will be captured and euthanized. Maybe someone can approach him and get a leash on him. Walk him down Kline Street and see if he turns in at a particular house.

Maybe the owner has become too incapacitated to walk him. Help may be needed.

I did once when a Lab pit bull mix was on my deck in Seattle and wouldn't let me out of my house. Gowling and snapping if I approached the glass door. I needed to get to work. Police came and shot at the ground near him and he ran home, the officer in my case did not shoot him, but did give the owner a ticket I don't know what for just know my neighbor was mad at me. It was a Sunday and Animal Control in my town doesn't work on weekends either.

The bigger dogs the last I heard are kept a certain amount of time-- mainly as long as there is room-- and then put to sleep if no one adopts them. Perhaps, their procedures have changed?

A friend sent me this today, and I think the day my Ouie died when this post originated, I think my doggie was trying to help the other big doggie though this thread.

Great idea to take his picture! Perhaps it could be posted at the mailboxes & the pool with a footnote that people are thinking of calling animal control because he has been seen frequently alone...If he has a home-SOMEBODY will recognize him!

Dancing Queen I'll help look on saturday for the dog. Tell me a pool and a time to meet and maybe others will join us. I'm not a dog handler, and won't know what to do next but maybe an expert will join us.

I'll check later.
