If these threads bother you...why in the world do you open a thread headed with "dog owner who do not respect others poperty"

Actually I think this may be a new horse in the barn for us to beat to death - don't believe we have discussed the issue of someone on a scooter who may have a problem picking up the poop!

Although I loved the offer of assistance I'm afraid that would result in encouraging that dog owner to use my yard and my help. Probably not a good scenario.

Everybody has a yard of their own for the dog to doo its dump in. If people can't walk or pick up, then they can let the dog doo it on their OWN yard.

And, when out on a walk, the dog should not be allowed on a homeowner's yard in the first place, much less let him be on somebody's grass long enough to sniff out his preferred spot to dump on. I've owned dogs all my life and have never seen a log just fly out of a dog with no sniffing and hunching. Owners know when the dog is getting ready to dump, unless it's sick.

If the dog has to doo it before making it home, they should already be on the street or sidewalk, not somebody's private property and new grass.

I assume you take your dog out at night so as not to be seen. Whose lawn do you allow Fido to dump on, your own? I for one would not appreciate you fertilizing & re-seeding my lawn.

So I'm a little confused about your thinking. Someone is handicapped and using a scooter. They want to get some fresh air and take their dog for a walk and you have a problem with that??? Don't know how those scooters get around in the grass in the yard - I'm assuming (and hoping not to make an ass of us and me) but probably not easy to get around in the yard on that thing. So please let this person and their dog go for a walk and don't denegrade their ability to pick up the poop.

I agree they should not go in someone's yard but would you really have it in the street??? We have lots of resourceful people in TV and I hope someone can come up with some sort of mechanism these folks could use to pick up the poop. I know how much joy my fur kids bring to my life - it is probably multiplied if you are handicapped and homebound. Please have some compassion.

The problem is...the smell, it attracts other dogs regardless of whether you pick it up or not...the pee, I have several brown spots already where I've seen dogs going, and basically the idea that someone believes it is my responsibility to adjust to the fact that someone is going to use my property as a toilet whether I like it or not. I agree that the streets are certainly too hot for your dogs, especially during the summer. I see poor pooches panting and sweltering in the heat all summer long, on the streets and up at the squares. Why someone would subject their pet that they love to that is beyond me. I suggest driving your dog to an appropriate spot to play, AFTER it potties on YOUR lawn. I've seen an adorable little dog up at the mail station that wears socks...really because it's allergic to the grass, but this might solve the hot feet problem. Believe me, I know I will never get anywhere with this, and have been labeled a dog hater (that couldn't be farther from the truth) but it is the pet owner's responsibility to take care of and make provisions for their pet. Not the surrounding neighbors.

I REALLY DONT WANT TO GET INTO THIS DOG FIGHT BUT, I agree with ILOVETV, the owner should let their dog poo AND pee on their own property. Owners know when their dog wants to go out. Why is it okay to use others property but not their own???

We lived in Michigan and have had dogs all of my life. Never did my dogs go in someone else's yard. They went in our yard. I love animals but I still don't want dogs using my yard as a bathroom. AND I sure don't want someone stomping poop in my yard !!! :rant-rave:

Is there anyone out there on this thread that uses a scooter for mobility? If so perhaps you can explain how it feels to loose your freedom of mobility and how a nice ride in the fresh air, accompanied by your dog, gives you a sense of freedom. Hopefully none of us will never know that feeling.
OP, I understand your frustration because I have been in your situation before. Please watch for this person and tell them your concerns. I know you just wanted to let off steam but you will feel even better if you talk to the offending person. My 2 cents worth.

This problem is just not in the villages. It is in Destin and Coral Springs and Atlanta and Long Island and Possum Trot.... and back where people used to live.


How we deal with it is a measure of our character. Some people like to make issues into larger issues. MOST people are responsible. I say this after living here for almost seven years. I grow tired of the complaining about this subject.


Tired of it. VERY tired of it. I don't have a dog and I live on a corner lot. I like dogs a lot and I am somewhat proud of our lawn. I would much prefer to live where people have pets. It makes them happy. AND MOST dog owners are responsible to all of us. I say choose your fights. What is most important? Living in your neighborhood and having friends, or finding stuff to fight about????


And all this kvetching isn't going to change anybody's attitude, just aggravate them further. I choose dog people over non dog people seven days outa seven.

Your dog, your problem, Keep them off other peoples lawn.

Never said it didn't happen other places, but it didn't on my street where I lived. We respected each others properties. Again, I loved, walked and played with their dogs...they DID NOT poop on my lawn. One of the greatest compliments I ever received was from an old neighbor, that most recently said "I am jealous of your new friends and neighbors" . I take exception to you inferring I am "finding stuff to fight about".
If you're so tired of it, refrain from commenting. Go on to the next post with a title having nothing to do with "dogs", "poop", "respecting property".
