BOGO is the downfall of my other half. Two cakes or pastries just leads you down the sugar path longer.

Its a marketing ploy - Publix and WinDixie both do it. You really have to be a smart consumer and do the math and decide if its worthwhile. Sometimes it is, depending on the item. I've been shopping at Walmart for some things like cereal, english muffins, etc., which are always cheaper than the everyday prices at Publix and WD. And they now carry a good selection of organic vegetables which are cheaper too.

Some years ago when we lived in New Hampshire, our favorite store was Idylwilde Farm in Acton, Massachusetts. We paid $14.99 for one pineapple.

This is how I know I am both lazy and cheap. I wouldn't pay that much for a pineapple if it came with Brad Pitt. I also wouldn't brave cutting off all those ouchy things and getting rid of pith. Yes I meant pith. I use Dole chunks from a can.

It is very deceptive and borders on a scam. The only time you are likely to see pineapples priced at $4.99 is when they advertise buy one at $4.99 and get one free.
