Forgive me, Bucco, but I don't understand why it should be OK to drink but not OK to be light hearted about it. You can pretty much pick a subject and someone will have an experience that was negative. As another poster said (Gracie, I think), we're all adults. We can drink if we want, and we can joke around about it. There was no harm intended from Golfingnut, I'm sure. None of the first posters meant to bring up old hurts, but people can't be expected to walk on egg shells. I maintain when the tone of the thread was obviously lighthearted, it would have been best to walk away and let the members who were enjoying it have at it.

As an alternative, anyone could start their own thread about the perils of drinking, if one feels that strongly about it.

Yes. You nailed it. Thank you. I absolutely meant it to be a fun conversation. Gracie also opened my eyes to the why factor. I think she is spot on with her post. I drink my two beers and I will not be ashamed of myself for doing so.

One more time,...and I hope someone actually reads this.

I understood the OP, and how he feels differently after a few drinks.

A poster, not me, had a problem because of some personal things, NOT WITH DRINKING...AGAIN...NOT WITH DRINKING, but with frivolity connected with the ..and I will not use a descriptive word..but with the affects on your mind

I posted to support that post.

At that point I think it is done except for some reason folks began to mock posts like that...no fun, lecturing, etc.

I made the mistake of responding because I object to being mocked and being called judgemental, etc when that never happened.

I never said any harm was intended at any time, nor even implied that.

That is pretty much all there is.

Judging by some of the posts on this thread, I don't think everyone is fully aware of the seriousness of alcoholism.

Alzheimer's is probably caused by a genetic reason and that gene MAY have been altered by any number of things or it could have been a non dominant recessive trait or a dominate trait. Much is being discovered about genetics by the minutes, even seconds, these days. Some think that the tendency toward alcoholism may be genetic. It GOT my attention.
Genes alone don't cause Alzheimer's. The Alzheimer's gene has to be triggered by some behavior like drinking, smoking, overeating to the point of becoming overweight, or something in the environment.

I never said that everything can be avoided by eating a healthy diet. But a high percentage of degenerative diseases ARE caused by poor lifestyle habits. Those who doubt this are very likely already taking medications for some of these health issues.

"Relax and enjoy a few more things" comes across as very condescending, as if I'm not relaxed and not enjoying anything. So pardon me if I don't think you mean it "kindly and most sincerely."

Geez a thread that started out as fun and good natured kidding between members has turned into lectures on drinking, eating, and picking on people.

What a shame.

Golfingnut 10-03-2013 02:45 PM

I love you Gracie and I know you to be very honest and straight forward. Don't you dare let anyone make you feel bad. I am used to it, but you don't deserve it at all. I will try to respond to them so they will stop picking on the rest of you.

Here we go: I am a beer drinker. It must be Post Traumatic Viet Nam Syndrome that drove me to this life of constant brain fog. But since I am so disabled mentally, do you think it is nice to pick at me?

Sounds like a plan to me. I will check with the boss and hope to see ya there.

Sometimes I read what is posted and am so grateful I am getting to know people and their views, thoughts and reactions by posts first and not at a social event initally. You really CAN get to know who is reactionary, who has their 'fall back topic', who has feelings easily hurt, who is rational or peace making, etc from just reading posts. I feel like it will give me a head start when I see everyone in person. I am grateful I know with whom I should just smile, nod and make my way to the other side of the room as soon as possible.

Nice post and obviously from the heart. I will print that one out and try to read it next time someone make the hair on my neck stand up. Ya can't change anyone and I wish not to give an impression of me when I am being a bad boy.

Likewise. If someone doesn't have a brain in their head I will just smile and keep walking. Although, why would I even be at a social event where people drink?

Yes! Dark lager, and white wine....YUM!
After dealing with solving people drama problems and family drama problems all week long............ a happy hour at TV with either of the above beverages is a nice stress release! And it is even better with TOTV friends!!!!

Good choice. That's a fight you can win. I always say, "stick to what you know".

Moderator 10-03-2013 07:15 PM

Way too many off topic and personal posts in this thread to try to clean it up.

So, we ask that all return to the original topic which appeared to be a light hearted discussion about posting on TOTV after having a few/couple drinks.

If civility cannot be restored, the thread will be closed.

Yung Dum 10-04-2013 12:18 PM

After reading this entire thread, I think I need a drink. I'm going out later for a few. Not driving. I'll post later this evening and see if it's different.

Bonny 10-04-2013 02:05 PM

Wow ! Haven't read this thread in 2 days !! I definitely need a drink after this ! Heading out to Bonefish and then we'll skip on over to Codys for a few and listen to Dunning Shaw !! Hope everyone has a great night and be safe !!

Microcodeboy 10-04-2013 02:19 PM

Just got back from a fun afternoon. Will get popcorn from Brownwood later and watch Survivor. Life is good... Now where did I leave my drink...

gomoho 10-04-2013 02:51 PM

TGIF - home safe and sound with my husband - enjoying a bottle of wine. If I drink the whole bottle I'll probably be on here later slurring my posts!!!:wine:

Yung Dum 10-04-2013 07:25 PM

I wrote earlier promising to write again after a “few” to see if my post will be different. I think it will be. I see that TOTV calls me Junior Member. That makes me feel young. I’m back home at 8 o’clock. I used to go out at 8 o’clock. That makes me feel old. But I’m learning older is better in many ways. You never have to go to work the next day. And even if you did, you would be bright-eyed and bushy-tailed as opposed to bleary-eyed and stinky. But, back to the question at hand. Um, what was the question? Oh I remember. Yes I do believe my posts are slightly different after a few beers. Not to mention it took me 3 hours to type this.

Love your post and sense of humor! Where is the like button....oh I'm not on FB. Must be due to the glass of wine I'm drinking...

Face it, some think they become a comedian and the life of the party after a few and don't have a clue what is really happening. Doesn't matter whether it's posting or in person. Joking about it feeds a need to feel accepted by others that do the same.

Nothing anyone says on here is going to change anything so no need to go any further.....

EZR, It sounds like you are frustrated that you can't change people and feel powerless. It annoys you that people act foolish and joke about it. If you could say what you really think about the need to feel accepted, you would risk rejection. aw, heck I probably don't have a clue what is really happening.

We definitely need a like button, a dislike button and an eye roll button. LOL
Staying home tonight and having a liver rest. Well, at least until my night cap tonight.
Going to Sanibel with 200 Parrot Heads next week. Woo Hoo, talk about a fun week. Oh my !!! :D

graciegirl 10-05-2013 09:04 AM

I used to think things were funny when I drank. I still think things are funny when I don't drink. I see no harm in drinking if you don't drive and hurt yourself and others.

I like funny. I like making fun of myself, ourselves and gently of others.

Sometimes I laugh so hard on this forum that I almost......... well. I laugh really hard.

Laughing is so much better than crying.

Here's to each and everyone of you.

Sweetie makes really good coffee, but he enjoys his CC Manhattan in the evening. I used to drink Dewars. I still can't imagine I would like some of those flavored Martinis.

But I may have to go into rehab becaue of my addiction to Publix Rum Raisin ice cream.

Topspinmo 10-05-2013 09:17 AM

Drinking gives me courage, drinking makes me make stupid mistakes, drinking throws off my game. drinking makes me stupido, "O I said that already. Drinking makes me HORRRney! Drinking get's my @ss beat sometimes... When Drinking problems seems to float away for time being. I like playing games against drunks. I feel I have and unfair advantage. I feel I am Obnoxious when I drink. I like good stiff shot in the morning to get me going!:D Now Do you think I am drinking Right now?:22yikes:

Halle 10-05-2013 11:58 AM

Hmmm let me see do I want to socialize with the person who looks like they are having a miserable time or the person who is having fun, being funny and enjoying the party?

I always drink on airplanes. I don't care WHAT time it is!! Funny, I'm not at all afraid of flying, but a bloody mary in the morning or a coffee and kahlua, if it's really early, just makes for a smoother, more enjoyable flight. :)
