Default Getting rid of VHS Tapes

I am slowly digging out from all the boxes that have been in storage for over 10 years now. I have many boxes full of VHS Video tapes. Does anyone know how I can get rid of them? The boxes are heavy so I assume I can't just leave them out for trash pickup?
Thank you for your helpful advice. cm

If I have something like that, I put so many a week in the garbage. It takes a little time but I got the job done.

The other choice is to take them all down to the dump.

It depends on what county you live in. Lake county has one on Rolling Acres Road and Marion county has one in Weirsdale. I have no idea where the one in Sumter county is located. Can anyone add that one?

Try giving them away on Craigslist or Freecycle to someone who may be able to use them... it's better than contributing to the ever-growing pile of refuse at the dump.

You can request a large trash pickup from your home by calling
Sumter County Large Trash Pickup 748-0109 - no charge just leave it out at the end of the driveway.

If any of these VHS tapes have content that you would like to save send me a PM because I have a JVC VHS/DVD Recorder available that would enable you to copy to DVD's I no longer need this device and it is for sale.

If they are commercial (store bought) tapes you can probably donate them to either of the "friends of the library" rooms at the Villages' libraries. If they're just blanks (or with some home recorded stuff) just offer them free on this site. There are probably some VHS player owners who wouldn't mind watching some old shows.
