Default Travel Route coming from NE on I-95 North

I am reposting this in a new thread in hope more people will see this and respond.

Travel Route coming from NE on I-95 North
I read all the posts about the speed traps along 24 and 301. Don't want to travel these roads as we may be doing this part of the trip in the dark. Just seems it may not be the safest route in the dark.
Has anyone taken:
I-95
I-295
I-10 W all the way to
I-75 than south to
466A

Mapquest says the mileage is higher but travel time is just about the same. Please let me know if you have uses this route and what you think. Thanks.

Don't come from the Northeast, but we come down I-75 from Atlanta every trip. We love it. Very little traffic, well patrolled by FSP if you have trouble. FSP in EVERY rest stop at night for security, plenty of gas stations, etc along the way. Then off at Highway 44 to 301 North to 466A then into Canal St.
The only thing I will say is that I-10 between 295 and I-75 is a lonely stretch because most of it is through the National Forest. Few gas stations and only 1 rest stop but FSP is there also nightly. It should only take you and hour to do this stretch. I use it when we come down I-75 and need to go to JAX.
But it is a very good route that you have listed.

I come down 95 from VA a lot. I have tried almost every route available. As bad as the speed limits are on 301 from I 10, it is still the best way. They are very well posted and just follow them to the exact number and your fine. It is the fastest, shortest, easiest and overall best way to get from I 95 to TV. The second best way is to go 95 South of Jacksonville and across Florida through the Ocala National Forest. My only caveat on that route is to make sure it is during daylight. The Ocala Forest at night has way to many critters in the road. Mostly deer, but still dangerous.

I have traveled that exact route on reccomendation from a friend in TV. It takes about the same time (give or take a few minutes) as the 301 route. It's a coin toss but if I were driving at night that would be my choice. And remember 466a has frequent radar on it so take it slow there.

Default travel from I95

We drive from NH and we have tried a couple of different ways and have found this route to be the best. It is a little longer milage wise but much better roads to travel. We are heading back down in March and will take this route again. Can't wait to become a Villager if we can only sell the house in NH. Again we have made the drive over a dozen times and have found it to be the best.

Tried them all. IMHO, the one above is the easiest and safest. We recommend it to guests, family and friends North of the Mason-Dixon line.

Based on google maps, going all the way to I-75 on I-10 adds 44 miles to the trip (versus the Waldo route). It may be easy and it may be safe, but I find it hard to believe that it is as fast as the Waldo route - even with the speed traps.

Default 95 south to TV

How many miles is it from rte 10 ,at 301 south, to Rte 75 south and from that point on 75 to gainsville?

Time wise is it almost the same as going all the way on 301?

Thanks

PS: As a previous poster suggested and I can attest. Do not go through the Ocala National Forest late at night like I did (midnight) in December. Never again.

I do not go all the way to TV on 301. When I get to Waldo I take 24 to 331 over to I-75 and then go south on 75. The distance from I-10 and 301 to the point where I-75 meets 331 near Gainesville is 101 miles. The route down 301/24/331 to the same point is 55 miles. Most of the latter route is clear sailing at at least 55 MPH.

There is a point on 301, about 5 miles North of Ocala where 301 is about 1.5 miles from I 75. CAlled 326 or NW 77th street. Right near a place called Irish Acres and a BP station. Takes about 3 minutes to get from 301 over to 75. That way I avoid 24 and 301 is mostly 60 mph from Waldo to there. Then take 75 down to exit 329, go to Wildwood, North on 301 for a couple blocks to 466a, to Buena Vista to TV home.

This seems like a good alternative. I had never traveled the section 0f 301 south of Waldo but was fearful that it would be like it is around Ocala and below. However, if you can avoid Ocala as you suggest and if 301 is 60 MPH to that point, it sounds like a winner.

Default Go that way every time!

Herbaru,
Hubby and I go that way every time we come down from VA. It is the best way. Yes it is 44 miles out of the way but the difference in time is only 15 minutes! We love the fact that 75 is much faster. We recommend it!

We've tried many routes, and like this one: I95 60 miles south of Jacksonville to Ormond Beach; west on CR 40; south on 19; west on CR42. It's also 60 miles from Ormond Beach; 40 and 19 are excellent roads.

Default Travel route coming from NE on I-95 North

We took route 10 and 75 and it was very easy. 301 may look shorter in distance but not in time. I also think it's easier and safer in the dark to be on a major highway.
