I hope my opinion counts. My creds are: former manager of an iconic band from the 60's, toured extensively, made countless friends considered genuine rock stars, played guitar since 1965. Kurt is the real deal. I met him once and found him to be a good soul. He is a great musician and front man. A lot of bands that play TV look like they are going to Applebees for lunch. The Hooligans look like a real rock band. Man for man, they are the best band I have seen in my 12 years of watching music on the squares. Dont flame me, it is just MHO. One last thing, I do know RRHoF artist that do play small gigs. Why? Because the love to play.

Ok so you had your say to bring "perspective" into this conversation. Tracii would never do a driveway gig. Too good for us looking to put a little sunshine in our life. ?? Tracii's loss. Stay Safe.

One of the greatest glam bands ever

I’m glad you were able to have Kurt entertain you and your neighbors. He is a highly talented musician. I miss him and The Hooligans more than words can tell!

Quite the stretch to say he is the lead singer and guitarist for LA Guns. He joined in 2019 way after the bands' nucleus demise. This was a great band starting from the early 80's and had many big selling albums internationally. Their greatest successes were from the late 80's and 90's. This guy could never fill the very large shoes of Tracii Guns, Steve Riley and Phil Lewis (none of which are still with the band), who were the most prominent members of LA Guns. All of that said, I'm sure he's a fair talent and had a nice show in the "Driveway".

Obviously everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but my guess is you never heard him sing, so making a broad statement as to filling someone's shoes is uncalled for as well as the "Fair" talent line.

It's just as easy to google this kind of information than it is to post snarky comments.

We actually went to a driveway concert where they had tenor Mark Stephen Schmidt sing. It was fabulous and he sang for an hour. It was free to book him. His manager had a tip jar sitting on a table and everyone contributed. There were couples dancing in the street and singing along. It was really a nice evening. I would estimate there were probably 25 people in carts and in lawn chairs with proper distancing. Really a treat!!

We have. Everyone spaced out in their golf carts and all are well after 3 weeks. Fear of COVID 19 does not need to overwhelm our lives.

bluzzman21 08-18-2020 09:01 AM

Steve Riley is still with the band

Here here on The Hooligans and Spazmatics! The only band I do NOT miss is Rocky and the Elders. <ducking - don't shoot! :) >

Interesting article from 2018 on "the other news site" regarding pay scales for the bands. The title was "Huge gap exists in pay scale for performers at Villages town squares" if you want to search for it. You'll have to fill in the banks to read it: xxxxxxxx-xxxx.xxx/2018/09/30/huge-gap-exists-in-pay-scale-for-performers-at-villages-town-squares/

Officially, since Florida is still in "Phase 2" of reopening. State limit (unless it changed recently) is technically max groups of 50 which is obviously "non-enforceable".

The order also encourages non-enforceable, “responsible individual activity,” including:
  • Not gathering in groups of more than 50 people.

Be safe and have fun. With COVID- don’t put yourself in a bad situation, 50 people is a lot!

I played a 2 hour driveway concert in The Villages a couple of months ago. What a pleasant experience! The audience observed sensible distancing, many of them enjoyed the show from the shade of their golf carts. It is comforting to read that folks are able to get together socially without raising risk to themselves or others. The "driveway" approach may be with us for a while, we really don't know enough about Covid-19 to make predictions.
If you are thinking of setting up a show, and you have a shaded spot for an entertainer, and a 110 volt power outlet, you can call me at 949 338 1359 Robert James. I play for fun and tips. No heavy hard rock, mostly old pop songs and easy listening country music.

Those are so much fun. We attended one in our neighborhood by tenor vocalist, Mark Steven Schmidt. We all drove our golf carts, socially distanced...it actually incorporated 2 -3 houses on each side of the street, so there was plenty of room for social distance dancing too!
