I think it's just a Florida thing that there are so many renters. Retirees buy, but want to spend summers up north with the family. They rent to offset the cost of maintaining 2 homes.

Your assessment looks more realistic. It does seem that the troublemakers in the Villages are more than often kids or grand kids of Villagers who are helping take care of these Villagers. Most of us are hard at work helping our family out and doing other stuff but with a population now of about 160,000 you will see more and more bad apples in the barrel.

I agree! Plus renters seem to not have to follow any CC&R's. I don't feel like I have to be the police in the neighborhood especially since community watch does drive through here. Yes, that may not be their job however I don't believe it's the neighbors job either. There are many renters that are very respectful and do not cause problems but others are a real pain.

Let's also not forget the amount of money renters bring to the Villages. I don't shop much in the stores here, but I like having them. Without renters and snowbirds, I don't think a lot of these stores could make it.

Some people do not care to own a home but prefer to rent.
I realize that there is a lot of publicity from the online paper about those that are arrested. I would venture to say that like most news they are trying for headlines that attract readers.
Do your research, most of those that are featured in that online paper as arrested are not renters but are living with relatives or parents.

Or are miles from The Villages. Bad guys in Ocala or Leesburg,,,,,I have no interest in reading about their bad deeds. Their reports just fill space on that site.

What are CC&R's?

Sometimes it's good to hear about the surrounding areas as well because some of those people work in and around the Villages.

When I first moved here many year ago. You could only own one house. Of course there was always the people Who thought it was the American way to find a way to beat the system. Back then they would buy one house and tell of villages that the house they bought was either too big or too small so they wanted to buy another one while the original house was up for sale. But the asking price for the original house was so high that nobody would ever buy it and therefore they were able to buy another house.. The second house became a rental. They would then take the original house off the market and stay in the original house. But as time went on and the developer got greedy he really didn't care That a good development is "owner occupied" and not people who buy for investment. I know of some communities where it is not legal to own two homes and the difference is like night and day. Rentals bring problems,, don't get me wrong there are people that want to rent before they buy but there also the entrepreneurs who could care less who they rent to as long as they make money. You can see it in some of the neighborhoods where on some blocks there are many rentals and the camaraderie between the neighbors ceases to exist. This is always not the case There are exceptions. When it is owner occupied seems to be a much better neighborhood.

Never heard about owning one house. I think you are only allowed to buy two NEW houses at a time...still.

It is o.k. to make money.
It is o.k. to own a home you rent out. .
It isn't o.k. when the owner of the home fails to keep it nice and up to par of the neighborhood it's in. Or to rent it out by the day...or allow a bunch of people who don't know each other to rent it.

I watch Judge Judy and I know stuff.

thank you. for whatever reason even if I wrote iT all in capital letters that my comments are not directed at renters BUT AT THE PROBLEMS CREATED NOT BECAUSE OF RENTALS BUT BECAUSE AN OWNER CAN TRANSFER/ASSIGN HIS/HER AMENITY RIGHTS it still would be lost on some. its not about people its about policy.

Madeline Amee is right its too late

i don't recall a sales person ever informing me that I could buy or rent. of course when I bought they told you you had to take the house as it was under their conditions or hit the road.

Rubicon.

In all of the history of sales people all over the world, only a dumb one would say you can buy or rent.

And it is still under their conditions or you can hit the road.

This is a desirable place to live and they can call the shots.

I am pleased to live in TV but my nature is to focus on the peripheral.

Personal Best Regards:
