The Police in the modern era, do not have the latitude or discretion, available to them as when we were kids. In a bar, theatre, or other private locations. They cannot be bouncers to throw some jerk(s) out of the place, or they may face a civil suit. There must be charges filed. Disorderly conduct, harassment, ect. There must be a complainant in or on a private premise. If they do not plead out at arraignment, the complainant must be available for possible testimony. The theatre manager should be the complainant in this case, as he is responsible for the premise. When I was a kid, if the Police Officer said move, you moved.

I agree. And, if you were really out of line, you got a nightstick across the back of your thighs. You wouldn't complain to your parents because you would be punished by them. |
One of our residents just got six months for being drunk and disorderly AND a few more details. If the manager was not a coward AND if you had called 911 I can guarantee these two creeps would have been taken out in handcuffs. DRUNK in public tossing cans on the floor is a crime. Not a major crime but a crime. So is littering and Jwalking.
The right cop and a dozen angry residents speaking up would have put these knuckledragging fools in the back seat of a patrol car. Fact. |

If I had seen a couple going at it at the Lake Sumter Square Pavillion at 10:30 PM unless there were kids around I would not have said anything to anyone just gone on my way. If they were fighting then I would call 911 but not for.... |
Ah, Judge Judy. Today's TV King Solomon!

Looks like Peggy is getting an early release, one minute past midnight on October 31. I will refrain from Halloween related comments at this point. Maybe she is getting out early for good behavior. She was working in the laundry while incarcerated. I hope she can remain clean after she is released.

I would have demanded a refund and left with all my relatives. The theatre has to provide a safe, quiet environment. Everyone should have walked out. I refuse to put up with anyone's BS or get angry anymore. It's not worth it.
Have you been to San Francisco in the last few years? I was there 3 years ago on vacation staying in a Youth Hostel with my son and his college friends. While they were in a conference I went sightseeing. Everyday, many times a day I would be approached by panhandlers. It was hard to tell who was harmless. I feel very, very safe here but not there. |

What does panhandling in San Francisco have to do with this post? Also, if I went to Frisco with my son, I would stay at a Hyatt or Marriott and NOT in a youth hostel! |

My son and I were on a cross country trip. We enjoy each other’s company and could not afford the places you can afford. We have gone on many father/son trips. He picked out the Youth Hostel. It was his treat. He felt good showing me off to his friends. The Youth Hostel itself wasn't dangerous. It was right next to the Tenderloin District and we didn't know any better. He spent the first 4 years of his PHD program at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore and the last 2 at Stanford. I lent him my new Forrester and used his beat up Corolla until he graduated. That was the impetus of the trip. I flew home. And why do I owe you an explanation? |

I did not ask for an explanation. I merely stated I did not see any connection with the OP and still do not. |

And don't call it Frisco! Sheesh!!!!!!

Is that your point? |
Why is it PIC to call it Frisco and yet people still say Philly? Even the police use @PhillyForce.

Philly people are easy going and not easily upset. :)

I stopped going to the movie theater years ago for this very reason. Some people talk through the entire movie. I'll watch movies in the private and quiet living room of my home.

Sooner or later they're going to get into a motor vehicle @ that time the they're fair game for a DUI--follow them and get their tag #

Going to the lobby and giving the manager a choice of ejecting the louts, or even calling the cops himself/herself, might have been the best way to go. In this day and age, people never know when objecting to misbehaving people will result in a bullet or knife to the chest. Damn shame. |
I think calling the police would have been the way to go. I'm surprised that in a theater full of people that no one called. The police are trained how to deal with drunken and disorderly behavior. It would be interesting to call the local police department and find out what their response would have been even after the fact.
The theater manager's response is even more incredible. What if one of the drunkards started throwing beer cans and someone was injured? Not many in the audience would hesitate to make that first call to lawyer! |
