With everyone driving like maniacs to get in front of the snowbirds..combined with seniors in camaros and vettes driving like it's 1973 again these dump truck guys take the cake.

Can we all slow up a wee bit?

It's you.

And in 1973 there was a national 55 speed limit, even for camaros and vettes

And you can "slow up" if you want, just pull over when everyone else is stacked up behind you.

Remember that song by Simon and Garfunkel? I think the OP has got it right. While it was already fitting back in the day, with the huge increase in traffic, cars that zip up to high speed with the touch of the pedal, and poor condition of the roads that can't handle all this traffic, we need to double down on driving safely and slowing down.

Maybe I'm just getting old, but I remember when truck drivers were the most courteous drivers on the road, and I remember the good old days when the speed limit was lowered to 55 on the highway and traffic fatalities plummeted.

Instead, today, in this time of irrationality and ignorance, speed limits have increased and road rage is on the rise.

Maybe, because there's not much we can do about the other guy, it's best to MYOB like one poster wrote. But to be safe, we need to watch out for the other guy.

IMHO, there was nothing "good" about crawling at 55 on an interstate in Montana

Maybe some older drivers have problems with speeds over 55 and are no longer safe out there.
Golf carts at max 20 are a very good option.

At least they are working!

Yes. They are also the ones going 35 mph in a 45 all the way down 466 in the left lane.

Good thought ...

A lot of the drivers speeding out there only THINK they are safe.
And there are a lot of golf cart owners for which 20, 25 and even 30 mph isn't fast enough.
Drive defensively.

Easy. Stay off interstates with a speed limit of 70. Safer for everybody, after all, the "drivers" that go 50 in the left lane of I-75 rarely get into an accident, but they are highly likely to cause one

And years ago one of them even posted on TOTV that they do it intentionally, because THEY feel that is fast enough. And "silly" me, I thought we had legislators and traffic safety committees that set the speed limits, when all we needed was that guy to do it for all the rest of us:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

I've had nothing but good experiences when being passed by Rainy construction trucks while cycling either alone or in a group. They seem professional and attentive to the most vulnerable on the road so I'm always kinda happy when I see them in my rear view mirror.

I have always found the dump truck drivers to be very respectful and professional. It's pretty cool to see them in convoy.

IMHO, 'playing chicken' with a dump truck, or thinking that you'll win playing 'speed patrol' is a sucker's bet....there's far too much road rage out there today...and people carrying pistols

just drive defensively, let them pass, and as Ann Landers used to say....MYOB

Thoughts all over the place. We all tend to notice only the fools. Most people are normal not always but most of the time. People carrying guns. It is true that Florida gun laws are far less restrictive than, say New York, Chicago, Los Angeles and yet they have far more gun crime than Florida does. Endless debate. Cause and effect?
In Florida there is a real risk that grandma is carrying and it a great shot.

As far as Ann Landers and her sister, I don't recall her name. They WERE gossip columnists. I firmly believe in self responsibility. For people who read their columns,
you can bet people who accepted their busybody advice and it blew up on them, Ann Landers never suffered the problem.

It’s definitely you. I live south of 44 and see them everywhere. They aren’t speeding when I’ve seen them,

The drivers are paid by the hour, not by the load.

The most important part is THINK. Endless posts on this same subject. You can read the posts. The same pseudo names. Laws are for everyone BUT ME. Since, over 90% of car accidents are avoidable. The term accident is WRONG. Reality it is being STUPID behind the controls. We do not dare to speak REALITY.

Depends if they are independent owners or company drivers. Dump truck either loaded or o loaded takes time to come up to speed, and when they do the usually flow with traffic speed. When i’’m settings at stop light/sign and dump truck comes flying by IMO size matters when trying to judge speed?

Not against law to drive in left lane, only against the law to block traffic in left lane. Willing bet NObody has gotten ticket for driving in left lane below speed limit?
