More likely one or more of your references may not have helped or background check or social media posts.

Agree - or credit check, driving or other violations or convictions, or even an error in the application. Ask your true friends and family their opinion based on what they know about you and your desired positions. That will likely be the best feedback if they are honest with you. Keep trying elsewhere.

They only pull credit when you are applying for a position in finance. And, you have to agree to have your credit pulled in any situation.

They say that they are not going to move forward with my application, and when I ask them why, the only answer they give me is, I am not a good fit. When I press them further, and ask them what they meant by that, all they told me was that it’s not doing my case any good to keep on calling and harassing them if I ever wanted to be employed by The Villages in the future. I’m not calling to harass them. they at least owe me an explanation as to why I can’t be employed by The Villages.

When I procured my application I was told to look and dress appropriately, no shorts, nice slacks, a collared shirt, no tee shirt, nice shoes, no sneakers, hair combed, not wild! To be early and give all information on the application! It worked.

The bottom line is you don’t need to work there if they don’t want you. Apply at some other places, it probably won’t be long before you have a job.

So true. I applied for numerous positions with TV. Crickets 🦗. Had a job at Lowe’s in two days. There you go.

Best or worse reference I heard about was. "Worked here for seven months, entirely to his own satisfaction!"

Judging by the tone of your posts, I reckons HR were right.

Some misinformation here. I have walked into many senior level positions in my IT career. 1 position, a VP called me for breakfast and asked how much would it cost them for me to come work for them. That was my interview.
I’ve had other jobs that had similar interviews. I’ve had friends in IT that moved straight into senior level positions. If you have the experience, and you are known in the field, you can write your own ticket.

As for credit scores, mine (close to the max) has stayed steady and I haven’t had any loans for houses or cars for almost a decade.

As for getting a job in IT these days, I haven’t worked for 7 years and I still get offers from companies on LinkedIn for $200k and more. There are a lot of jobs in IT at this time and they need skilled people that don’t need training and all of the 1’s contacting me are remote so you can live anywhere where there is internet.

They can tell a lot in your credit report. Poor score=unreliable.

In addition, I would check your references to try to find out if one of them is reporting something negative.

Also perhaps do a background check on yourself to make sure that nothing inaccurate is being reported.
This would include the off-chance that negative info from someone with the same name is being attributed to you.

Good luck.

I had no problem getting hired. I was Interviewed and my start date was just 3 weeks later. Background, fingerprints and references all checked out. Great place to work.

Debset 01-30-2024 08:48 AM

I still say, your availability matters most! Make sure they are aware you are available to suit their needs.

I think I see the problem, aggressively demanding an explanation as to why they don't want to employ you seems self defeating. Maybe it's your tattoos, or something else they find physically displeasing? Maybe it's your grammar? I don't think they owe you an explanation, there are plenty of jobs on the outskirts of the Villages.

Was a terrible case in Florida involving an insurance company. They had a problem employee and let him go. Fearing retaliation they did not tell anyone. Guy got new job and new employer checked but could not find out about his problems. Guy killed several new co workers.

Why would TV do any of that PRIOR to actual interview….there is more going on then anyone on this site is aware of.

:) Back in the 70s, it was rumored that school administrators in the city and county had a code if asked for a reference for a teacher not to hire…….

“I cannot recommend that person highly enough.”

My experience is that they do not have to give you a reason. I once recommended someone I thought qualified for a job and he was turned down. I felt awful but was told they did not give him a reason. Perhaps you are of the wrong political party?
