Henry. Are you the person who actually cleans the lanai? If yes, then you would understand why enclosing it makes perfect sense.

Ours is in the process of becoming enclosed and we are gonna keep our lanai furniture for now. We just washed the furniture again and got new throw pillows. It gets so dirty out there and the rattan is a place for spiders to nest. Ewwww. Hope that stops when it is finished.

Those little Gecko's loved my Lanai. But when I enclosed it no more Gecko's inside.

I also keep the windows closed unless I am going to sit out there. It helps to keep the pollen and dirt out.
