Default Do you air condition your "Acrylic-Enclosed" Lanai?

Many of you have replaced your lanai screening with movable acrylic panels. With these panels closed, I imagine the lanai would be quite hot without air conditioning. How many of you air condition your enclosed lanai? Do you use existing AC without modifications, letting the air flow into the lanai, or did you supplement or make modifications to your central AC to cool the lanai?

I did not but I do know of others who had an A/C specialist/company come and run ducts to the lanai. It did get cooler but not down to what the rest of the house was.

We bought an existing home that has A/C vent to the lanai. It was put in by the former owner. It does make it a little cooler but like gf says does not cool like the rest of the house. Also during the cold spell it was a little warmer.

I live in Marion County where the codes prevent me from having an air duct installed. If you call the company who services your air conditioning unit, they will tell you what the parameters are. The floor of my lanai is not the same height as the rest of the house (you have to step down into the room) so that disqualified me from the outset.

As to what can be done, I had "Duette" shades installed. These are honeycomb style shades which keep out the heat in the summer and the cold in the winter. With a fan to keep the circulation going, the lanai is always pleasant. In winter a small electric heater takes off the morning chill.

I had my furnace cleaned the other day and the installer said he install ducts on the side and two ducts would heat and cool my lanai. He also started out at $600 and when I didn't bite he said maybe it could be done around $450. Makes you want to trust him!!!!

You might want to consider shades.

Air conditioning the hot lanai I used a Mr. Slim.

But bottom line Air Conditioning an Acrylic windowed Lani where the roof is not insulated and Acrylic Windows are Fair at best is not a very good idea if you plan to do it 24/7.

I have not heard of anyone who had success when running vents.

Good luck
