The exit gates are meant to facilitate traffic between the cars and MMP. If cars tailgate, carts and cyclist cannot cross. Think of it as a stop sign, which is exactly what it turns into when a tailgater breaks the gate.

There is an eye to keep the gate open and it will not come down on you. You do not have to be right on the tail of the car in front just in front of the eye.

I think it would be very rude to wait until the exit gate arms go down before you try to exit. There are some gates with stoplights just outside the gates. Can you imagine how PO'd the people in line waiting to exit would get if they had to wait until the gate went down after every car. They would have to wait for multiple light changes. Use your head folks.

Yup, the "exit" gates stay up till all vehicles are long gone. You can even stop under an open gate and it will stay up.

Finally some common sense when it comes to exit gates . They are to keep traffic moving . Remember , golf carts crossing have stop signs , exit gates do not . You are not suppose to stop to let carts pass through .

Gates
To hijack this thread just a little, wouldn't it be safe with just one entrance gate now that all gates (I'm assuming) have buttons?
When a MMP crosses in front of a visitor gate, the line of sight is blocked. A cart driver only know if the crossing is safe when he/she see the gate is down. If the Visitor gate is gone or stuck in an up position, watch out for danger. Again, for curious dimwits like me, explain why we need a visitor's gate if visitors (mostly contractors and service companies) can enter through the Resident gate by pushing the button? |

Then why have a exit gate at all?

So people won't enter through the open lane.

Right...OK
So the entrance gates are there to give the carts a chance to cross, but the exit gate is a free for all... |

C'mon folks... think. Some MMP's are outside the gates, some are inside. Not one solution is correct for all. Having one standard system of gates should reduce confusion... but then again, this IS The Villages!

Most Gates will stay in the up position as also as something still in the beams. Street leading to stop lights good example. Two or three cars would only get through the stop light if I’d every car stopped and let the gate come down and back up. Gate leading out of residential street Wider bean pattern that gates leading into neighborhoods where the gate is programmed to let one car pass at time. This is where tailgaters get in trouble when they don’t scan card or push the button. The only problem while exiting is lagging too far behind where the gate beam can’t pick up you’re car and gate starts downward travel. Not really tailgating it’s the lagging behind and the gunning the gas to beat the gate or just not paying attention to gate when passing through. |

Yeah, I've previously tried pointing out...that contradictory explanation myself. But at least there's usually a small queuing area/median for 1, or 2, or 4 golf carts...to wait for the exit gate auto traffic. |
