We put soffit lighting under the eaves of our home. One at the entrance, one over the golf cart garage and three over the 2 car garage. We set the temperature to the warmest light possible, so it closely matches the coach light.
We turn them on at dusk, off at 11:00... |
The colored lights look cool... I saw 2 neighbors with the same type in their cages at another village, right across from each other near the entrance.
When my cage was finished a neighbor came by and asked if I was putting in lights. That made me think of the colored ones in the other village and so I had 8 colored installed for just under 3k. Neat toy, they change color to whatever pattern you set on the remote. I only use them a couple times a week for not more than an hour if even that much and before 9pm they are off. But looking at that pic from Pike's I would go with that style for the front, though my house is smaller. |
Liquid Lights does the LED strings that are programmable to different colors and patterns. I hear they’re pretty pricey though.

Multicolored lights on houses is ugly unless it’s Christmas!

Get a quote from multiple people and then check out the prices to do it yourself. I got a quote over $1000 and it’s a few hour job. I can get a full LED outdoor light kit which has a ip68 rating, 3m adhesive backing, with the remote controller and power supply, all for $50, which is double the length of my bid. I’m going with a double outdoor smart plug that will turn on and off the lights by a schedule or by voice. You can set the lights to 1 color or they can change color on their own or even to music. I have done this in our kitchen and the lights come on at dusk and go off at a specific time.

What if everyone had these lights. With no controls, hours, colors, flashing limits the place could look like a carnival sideshow. Could someone leave up their "Christmas lights all year," Some might say no because they are Christmas lights. But one could argue that they are simply accent lights. How about some flashing blue, red and yellow lights to make sure everyone one feels safe since help is nearby. Another Idea , how about some background music to accompany the lights. My son just returned from Japan and showed us a 3 dimensional display on a house showing a spaceship crashing into the house, aliens escaping from the spaceship etc. Looked cool on video but would you like that across the street every night. People selling this technology naturally encourage this stuff and like the word classy. But they don't want to think that the word tacky can actually apply. I personally don't respect their opinion. |
