LOL I've been watching since the mid 90s when both my parents and uncle bought homes here. I started investing here in 2004 so I have watched very carefully how things have developed. I have no doubt that Fenney and Southern Oaks will eventually be great places to enjoy the TV lifestyle. However, it will take several years for this to happen.

We have been snowbirds in many different villages since 2004 and Fenney just felt like home as soon as we saw it and that was almost a year ago, we bought our home the same day and are now full time villagers. One nice thing about it for now is you can enjoy all of what TV has to offer by using your car and on hot summer days the car is much more comfortable for getting from here to wherever. We do have a golf car and use it for swimming, using the various recreation center amenities, social gatherings, dining at the Bar and Grill, and now will use it in DeSoto. It doesn't take long to get to Brownwood or Lake Sumter Landing by car, we don't go further north than LSL except an occasional trip to Kattie Belle's. Publix, fuel, and banking, is less than 10 minutes, 15 to 20 minutes to the Leesburg Hospital depending on lights, and for major shopping it is exactly 25 minutes via I-75 to the Ocala shopping district, about the same to the 27/441 district, we prefer Ocala. Less than 3 miles from the turnpike and I-75 entrance on 301. One Sunday we decided to drive down to the Tampa Hard Rock Casino, 56 minutes door to door. By driving a little to get to the other amenities we get to come back to peace and quiet and very little traffic, this will change in the future but for now it is quite relaxing down here and travel to anywhere is not a burden. It changes by the day and it's a lot of fun to watch it grow. Always try to keep my glass half full.

I agree. The links are great and the advice is spot on.
Buying something based on emotion can be risky. I sat through many timeshare presentations selling the good life, one week at a time.
I rented before I bought down here too like the sales guy recommends. There is no timeshare salesman pressure down here. At least I didn't feel any. The pressure I think is what I created. That's the emotion part.
If the average villager does indeed buy 3 times that says quite a bit.

Perhaps, but the fact still remains that Brownwood has many many unoccupied vacant buildings, one restaurant that remains vacant after 2 tries and the least attended square for entertainment unless it is one of the TOP bands. And, it's been like this for the 5 years since it opened. I live near Brownwood and I had a lot of hope for it when I bought my house 4 years ago and in my opinion Brownwood has not delivered. It is a much "happier" and enjoyable experience to browse and walk around both LSL and SS. If anyone disputes this, they are kidding themselves or they like things a bit quieter with less shops to browse through.

We have bought 3 times. First house a vaca home. Second house 2 car garage. Third house 2 car and golf cart garage. Not saying that one day we might move to loft in the end, less upkeep. Not attached to homes at this stage. Number four could be right around the corner

I enjoy McAlister's to be found only in Brownwood! The seating for the square is so much better in Brownwood than the other two places. Plus the Barnstormer theater is nicer than the two older ones. Actually, I like them all but visit Brownwood more than the other squares. I must admit that I do live closer to Brownwood.

If my choice of words with respect to "not feeling like a real villager" offended you, then you were probably looking to be offended to start with. As I explained, what I meant by that was related to the full TV experience vs. possibly feeling one isn't getting the full experience because of the temporary disconnectedness. This is something I see as temporary and not a big deal but my wife isn't quite sure she would feel she was having that full experience without being able to hop on a cart and go anywhere TV has to offer. That was the reason for my original question. My wife and I have visited TV many times, as many do before ever becoming residents, so we are quite familiar with many things TV. We are on the younger side of the demographic but are looking forward to becoming villagers soon.

And, no, there is no apology in the above, explicit or implied, because if you took offense to anything in the OP, it's your problem to deal with, not mine to apologize for.
Please excuse them......we have more than our share of complainers. Is it an old people’s thing ?

I know indecisiveness is an old people's thing. I'm not sure about complaining.

We have lived in TV for two years and we do not own a golf cart. We love it here and partake in many activities.

When we play golf on the exec courses, we walk and carry our clubs and enjoy it very much.

I never missed not having a golf cart to get around The Villages until I bought one. Once you know your way around on a cart, there are many places you can go much quicker than with a car, using a lot less gas and when you get there you only need to find a small spot to park it in.

As for the summers, put the windshield down and enjoy the breeze in your face.

Now, I do own a convertible also and I wouldn't drive that in the summer with the top down. Just too hot when you are sitting still at one of the numerous red lights.

Been here six years. Have owned three houses and own two now. Just my self but I would not even consider Feeney at this point. It is quite a distance from anything at this point. Perhaps in the future there will be more businesses on 41 and a bridge or tunnel over 41 but it would still be quite a haul to the golf courses.

I cart to most CCs, but where I live now, that used to be the end of TV, then it became the middle of TV my house is still to far to drive to Lopez, and when tunnels are done to Fenney I will still drive, so not a big deal either way.

Now I just describe my house as in TV and thankful for that.

Since you had just walked into this room, this forum, you weren't aware of the characters in the play. I don't live in Fenney, but I have heard criticism of where WE chose to build here in The Villages, in our second house. There have been a lot of jabs and put downs toward Fenney and I feel protective of the real people who chose to live there. I feel the great prices offered to these pioneers will make them smile if they decide like we did to move to another new home in The Villages, and sell the one they had.

I played a lot of nine hole golf here and part of the fun was the long golf cart ride to the courses. I think I would miss that. I don't live in Fenney, but it is really nice and has all of the attributes of other new villages in THE Villages including happy and outgoing and friendly villagers, and lovely homes and well kept green spaces.

Pretty soon it will be connected to the contiguous Villages. Pretty soon it will have the commercial venues closer. Pretty soon folks who like to put down others and their choices will find another target. We are who we are. You can't put lipstick on a pig. Or gild a lily.

P.S. One thing for sure it has a LOT of Churches nearby.

Happy Easter, or Passover to you. You will love it here, OP.

Very interesting comment, Gracie. If the golf course was nearby, would you take the long way just so you could enjoy the ride?

We are kind of like that. Every time we drive to Ocala, we often come back by driving thru Pedro, even if it does take a little longer.
