My smoke and carbon monoxide alarm keeps chirping even after changing the battery. Help!

Make sure you use a high quality battery. I think they recommend certain brands/models. I know my mom replaced her batteries with some ones she bought at a dollar store. The alarms kept chirping. When I replaced those with Duracells, the chirping stopped. If you're using proper batteries and they are still chirping, it may mean the units are dead/defective. While the CO alarms are supposed to last about 10 years, most of ours have had to be replaced after about 5 years.

Cool

If, after changing batteries as Mikeod suggests, you believe it to be defective, call the 800 number on the back and talk to them. Most likely, they will send you a new one for free. They replaced two of mine that were over 2 years old.

I think they actually had a recall on some models.

Good Luck!

I have had the same problem after 5 years and had to replace the unit. These units only have a limited life span.

New units, both CO and smoke - exactly like the ones that came in your home, can be found at Ace Hardware.

If the CO detectors are under 5 years old, First Alert will replace them They have been very easy to deal with. When calling have the unit down from the wall, they will ask for numbers from the back panel.

Default 7 month

Our house is 7 months old. At about 3 AM one day last week it started chirping. Pulled the ladder out replaced battery. By the time I put the ladder away and got back in bed, it started chirping again. Pulled ladder out again and removed unit from wall. Watched infomercial until time to get up. Called warranty, they came out 2 days later and replaced. Said they have been having problems with the combination units. Both batteries tested good. Took an afternoon nap!

We just had the same problem; fire dept. says this has been happening a lot with these combo smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. Only thing to do is replace.
