Thumbs down Real Price/Customer Service

Just a question: Has anyone looked at the broad case of the public being misled or being decieived? It now appears to be a "sport with companies". Some examples:
1, Who actually pays the advertised price for a cruise. You have to add at least 1/3 to one half to that price when you go to purchase a cruise.
2. How about buying a car. Does the advertised price mean anything. Probably not. Remember Dealer prep, etc etc.
3. Then cable TV. Does the offering price really mean anything? How long is it before the price on the latest bill resembles what you thought you would be paying.
4. How about Netflex. That Price went out the window last week.
These are just a few. Am I missing something?

John W paved the way for me with the car. I went to his dealer as there is no way I would have traveled that far for Car shopping, truthfully I didn't know Claremont from Miami. I just knew they were far away. I saved about $2800, definitely worth the ride. I was going to pay outright for the car and be done with it and found out at the last minute they offered 60 months free interest. LOL. What a pleasant surprise. The money went into a separate account and an automatic withdrawal will occur for 59 months.

I'm a hawk on all household bills not so much as it is my way instinctively but more because of the way my Mom Schooled me. You work hard for your money son correct? Why would you spend it like a drunken Sailor? Watch everything all the time. I listened to stuff like that from her. She grew up during the Depression and was the last of 11 children. She would never tell me what it was but she just said she had seen rough times and by watching your money you can keep peoples hands outta your pockets.

She would be proud, I question all things when it comes to household bills but hardly ever delay happiness when someone around me needs something.

I miss not mixing it up with DirecTv all the time. I was with them for somewhere between 12 and 15 years as far as we can figure. A constant ongoing battle. Not anymore. We now Stream the TV and if someone doesn't do what they say they will Poof, they are gone. No paying rental fees for equipment either or insurance for service. Saves a bundle and works for me. I can see the point of paying a little more for something if it brings you happiness. DirecTv was very good, Streaming is much better.

Deception by all of these companies will never change. The only way they get the picture is by taking a look in their pockets. That's when they realize something is wrong when enough people cancel. The OP has many good points and I feel their pain. Being on the phone negotiating with someone who doesn't speak English is not fun Being on the Phone Negotiating with someone who claims they understand English and doesn't is even worse.

By documenting all the foul-ups bleeps and blunders of Amazon we just got the Third year of FREE Prime Membership. Facts, Figures, Times, Details and Names do Matter. If they continue to mess up this year we are going to leave them. I just like to hold them accountable. They have shipped us previously owned products when we absolutely wanted only new stuff.

How can the "tax, tag, title" be $200 when the FL sales tax is 6% ? The tax alone should be $1452.

They have no prep fees, no dealer fees, even the floor mats were included. I paid $24,200 + (tax, tag, title $200) out-the-door $24,400.

This is such an important concept that I learned years ago relative to our mortgage. New York’s various mortgage taxes combined are just under 2%. You are charged this on your first mortgage. If, at some point, you refinance, you are going to pay the 2% tax again on the entire amount of the refinance not just the new money -- although unconscionable, it is normal practice! But those in the know can avoid the duplicate tax by insisting on a CEMA (Consolidation Extension Modification Agreement) on the refi mortgage. The banks hate doing the extra paperwork and, get this, are not required to allow it if they choose not to. If they do allow it, they will charge you. I paid about $500.00 for this.

Fortunately I was aware of this at the time and despite my CEMA refi, the bank made a recording error on my first refinance which caused New York to demand the tax on my 2nd refi. I paid (in order to close on the loan) and then successfully fought Bank of America and got them to reimburse me $5,287 for the excess taxes that I was forced to pay NY due to the bank's recording error. (The state will not allow a change to the recording without a court order, etc.) so fighting the bank was easier than fighting the state.
