Default Florida residency

We are now ready to become residents of the state. Where do we begin or where do we find information. Info would be appreciated.

I just googled “steps to becoming a Florida resident”.
A lot of factual information.
Which cannot always be said about what you might get on here.

All you really need to do is to live here and get a driver's license. Not very complicated.

From what I now see you I need various verifications, get the Homestead Exemption, transfer my vehicles, get new insurance, etc. Not quite as simple as getting a drivers license and living here. Thank you all for the helpful links and information.

You don't need a homestead exemption or insurance if you don't own any property. A renter has just as much right to become a Florida resident as a homeowner. And, you don't need to register to vote or have a bank account as others have suggested.

Once we got the drivers license and registered the vehicles we went to county clerk and filled in this form. We then took the approved form to the tax office and filed for Homestead Exemption.

I never filled out that form, but I have a homestead exemption for my house. I am a Florida resident because I live here.

Many illegals will be glad to hear that interpretation.

I don't agree with it, but I think illegal aliens are Florida residents and are entitled to the homestead exemption if they own a house.

Country tax office on 466 by Morse. You can do it all there and they will walk you through it. Driver's license, car registration, register to vote and file for Homestead Exemption. Just go to the insurance agent outside that gives you best deal. So much easier than any other state we lived in.

Paid property tax there yesterday, saved a stamp.

That is not correct. For the 2018 exemption, you need to own the property on January 1, 2018, and file for the exemption by March 1, 2018.
