Default Florida Taxes

Since 2008 was my first official year as a homeowner in Florida, I am not sure what rules apply yet. We rent out our home through PM and it has gone very well. Question is, I understand there is no state tax for Florida, does that mean I don't file anything for my income on the rental? I have done taxes for the year for Uncle Sam and Minnesota, just don't want to be met at the border in Florida when we hopefully move there this summer.
P.S. Keep your fingers crossed, we listed our home this last week and plan to retire and move to TV as soon as it sells!! (Two showings scheduled for today.) Can't wait for the warm Florida summer, it's been a very long winter in Minnesota!

Try www.myflorida.com or call one of the CPA's in the Phone Book.

Oh, there's taxes on rentals alright, but they're a monthly Sales and Use taxes for "transient rentals." Your property manager, if it was The Villages, probably took care of it. Try the web site above just add...... .com/dor. The tax office in Leesburg can also give you advice. There's another link on this site re taxes.

I also rent with TV PM and they deduct and pay the FL. tax for you.
