It's not the donkeys that pass you at 25 MPH that cause problems...It is those who pass you at 21 MPH that do.

Criminals break the law everyday. Some are caught and maybe incarcerated or fined.
They still continue to break the law. I don't think fining someone for speeding will stop them from speeding. Also, The Villages golf garages will up your speed to 24.5 if you sign a waiver. :ohdear::ohdear::ohdear: |
We were told not to mess with the governor on the cart speedometer as it would invalidate the warranty on the cart if we got ticketed for speeding, could cause problems with insurance coverage as a result, not to mention the legal issues if you actually hit someone or get into an accident at that speed. I'll just putter along at 20 mph and let the speed-demons have their fun!!

Did you have a radar gun to tell he was going 35?

I believe all the carts sold by TV Golf Cars have the Striker Speedometer installed and Villages Discount Golf Cars has a speedometers also, but I believe theirs works off of GPS. When I purchased my cart in 2011 new from TV they were not offering a speedometer, I had them install a Stryker a couple of years later. It has a lot of functions. I believe their price is $150 or you can find them on Amazon for $120.

Fine as long as you do it safely. |

I’ve also noticed there are more than a few folks cruising along at 16mph looking at the sights, but as soon as someone pulls out to go around them they will speed up to the max their cart goes to make it harder to be passed. That could cause an accident. If you aren’t in a hurry, and want to cruise along at your speed, go ahead. Let people pass you. I’m telling you it’s very freeing to let them go. |

It’s not so much the speed that is dangerous, it’s the passing in an unsafe manner. If you feel the need for speed in you golf cart (really? Hahaha) , do it when the path is empty, and you have no one to pass. If your in a big hurry to get somewhere, I suggest your car or motorcycle on the road. Of course if it’s a true emergency (not just that you forgot your dentures) then exercise great caution when you pass anyone.

You can also make a mask with a t-shirt or old rag, or you can use a folded bandana. You can also use a sanitary napkin, which many places now provide free in their rest rooms. "Too poor" to possess a mask is not even a bad excuse. It's a stupid excuse easily debunked. |

[QUOTE=Garywt;1887477]I love driving in my golf cart but these donkeys that need to go 25, 30 or 35 mph passing people causing issues for other following the rules. What is the rush unless they are in a hurry to die. We like to enjoy ourselves and do go 20-21 but I don’t understand the rush. The one that had to pass me tonight proceeded to then turn 20 feet down the road.[/QUOTE
Happens to us all the time, ALL the time. Drive faster than you would ever think a golf cart can go .... on the trail toward LS square, past AP golf course, and the trail splits, had someone who almost overturned their cart and OURS trying to beat us to the trail split..... then all 6 carts, including the "crazy race driver" we all stopped together waiting to make the left hand turn to the square ! Worth the death defying maneuver and speed ! Also was alone in the cart last summer, going to Walmart, doing 22. Guy came around me and screamed something (?) shaking his fist. I paid no attention and really could not hear (gas carts) but on he went. Imagine how shocked (and actually a little frightened) I was when I got to Walmart, parked, was walking toward store and he came right up to me screaming how I was going to cause an accident "and get someone killed if you always drive that slow"..... continued to curse and scream that people who "do not drive at least 25 mph are a danger to everyone". I was so startled to think he had sped all that way, passing me before the tunnel, and then would wait in the parking lot until I got there and parked ! There were people around, but even so, very frightening. I was going exactly 21 mph, which I find MANY people find completely unacceptable ! Our cart's top speed is only 26, but we seldom ever "floor" it, usually 21, 22 is fine for us. The man did NOT appear to be drunk ! Just a screaming, very nasty, intimidating, man who was in a hurry, but had time to wait until I arrived ????? |

This post is complaining that someone (illegally) driving more than 22 mph in their cart passed you while you were (illegally) going 22. But it's OK because your cart that can (illegally) go 26 is only being (illegally) driven 21-22. I agree you have the moral high ground-----IF 2 wrongs make a right:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl: |
Cart speed
If someone wants to pass, why not! It's their right to go faster if they wish to risk it all.
There are those that push all limits, why get aggravated let them go and let fate take it's course. |

Up until about a year ago, the Sumter County Sheriff was a regular presence on Morse Blvd. (North of 466), where cars and carts drive at ridiculous speeds. I travel this stretch of Morse daily to our mail station, and on some days, I feel like I am risking my life. In the past year, I don't believe I have seen even one Sheriff's car out there with radar. They have simply stopped. Our sheriff's department has a LOT of deputies and a LOT of nice new cars. I wonder why they are no longer enforcing the traffic laws on Morse Blvd.

I’m on Morse north of 466 quite often, I never see those high speeds , in fact the road is always so crowded I don’t know how you could speed because if you could I would just like I and many others do on other villages roads

The carts that are not street legal are supposed to be topped at 21 mph. What I mean is, when we bought ours, and chose not to have it street legal, at this point, it was programmed such that it would not go more than 21mph. I personally think street legal ones shouldn't be allowed on the golf cart paths, but then the street folks would be mad because they are going under 35 mph, I guess. Back before we got our golf cart (a few months before Covid), we were hearing that 'golf cart police' were out on the paths, and stopping and ticketing anyone going even a little bit over 21 mph. I agree with you totally. Wonder if those folks are actual homeowners, or, younger family members, renters, etc that choose to ignore the rules.
