I know you are not talking about sales people here in The villages, Florida's Friendliest Hometown, the Adult Disneyland, Home of the buffalo, a place where every knows your name....No sir you ain't goin have many people believe that yarn your spinning. couldn't happen here

Villages agent never mentioned trains or anything possibly derogatory. Spent two days with him looking at new and pre owned.

Spent third day with Remax agent Tom Heller. First thing he did was pull out a map of the Villages and circle sewage treatment plants and railroad tracks. We ultimately bought from Heller.

Probably beneficial spending first day or so with non villages realtor so you can get well educated prior to spending time with Villages realtors who you have to pry information from. Of course, if you want only new construction you don't have a choice.

Doesn't take long to figure out who is positive and who is negative on this forum.

I would certainly think anyone ready to plunk down $250,000 or more would make the rounds to see what is in the area - sewage treatment plants, nearby train tracks, high tension wires, etc.

They run north and south parallel to route 301.

The Tropicana Train heading North is The Orange Juice Train, a express to New York Daily. This train has priority clearance and all other trains pull to the pass track to let it go by. Train traffic has gone up in the past year and will increase to 40-60 trains a day within a few years

That would be the type of agent I would want to work with -- tells the buyers upfront where the potential problem areas are. Nothing like plunking down $250K on your dream home and then having smells or loud trains to deal with.

We were on our way to Florida and stopped to stay overnight in a West Virginia motel. I haden't realized that the motel was right next to a set of RR tracks, and I mean right next to them, when we suddely heard the distant sound of a train approaching. It proceeded to get closer and closer and along with it's horn louder and louder. It sounded like the train was heading straight toward the motel. Without thinking I said to my 3 year old son... "Quick, you open the front door and I'll open the back door so the train can get through our room OK!"

Well I'm sure you can just imagine the blood curdling scream of fear that came out of his little mouth and how bad I felt as I held and assured him that the train wasn't really coming through the room! Fortunately we can laugh about it today, but back then... ???
:sing: OK! Go ahead! Call me a mean daddy! http://freeemoticonsandsmileys.com/a...il%20dance.gif

Thank you for my night-time laugh, Skyguy!:laugh::laugh:

Sounds exactly like something my husband would have said!

My three sons loved trains and would scream "flash and go down" everytime we came to a crossing. Many times I would find myself screaming with them!

Where are the sewage treatment plants located? How many are there?

Chuckinca -

You must remember the sound of the trains in Schweinfurt since the tracks ran mighty close to Ledward Barracks. They were right next to Conn Barracks.

chuckinca 01-12-2012 10:01 PM

I was at Ledward in barracks next to the out gate - only sounds I remember was the screech of bagpipes in the cold morning at revellie, the music at night from the Lilli Marleen bar (I heard later it was McDonalds)across the main drag outside the gate and the crowd noise from the Willie Sachs soccer stadium on Sunday Mornings when I usually had a hangover.

GARRY OWEN!

scoreboard 01-13-2012 07:03 AM

curious

Not that I doubt what you say is true about trains increasing. Just curious where you got that number? 40-60 a day in the next few years.
Is that based on fuel prices rising? or other factors.
That seems like an incredible number of trains rumbling through on a more than hourly basis, assuming 24 hours a day

bimmertl 01-13-2012 09:43 AM

This article mentions possibility of 54 trains a day and some as long as two miles.

Come on, Shadow, that photo is of the train yard. There is ONE track that goes from Wildwood north toward Ocala, parallel to 301. Let's not get hysterical.

Trains are good for the economy and good for the environment.

Did I say 9 tracks in Wildwood? They are just left over’s and had to be stored someplace I suppose. It probable has nothing to do with capacity required to handle train volume. By the way when Sun Rail starts service freight traffic will be rerouted thur Wildwood and Lakeland. Lakeland has complained but it does not help.

Trains are good for the economy; right the only train that is self supporting is up by DC the rest a federally funded. You know tax dollars.

chuckinca 01-13-2012 12:23 PM

From the link to the Ocala.com article above:

"...the freight traffic would not shift until spots along the S line, including some in Marion County, are upgraded to handle the extra volume. That means laying miles of double-tracking — that is, building a parallel track alongside the main line so slower trains can yield to speedier ones — through some areas."

and

"The SunRail plan also called for erecting new or improved overpasses along the S line. That included two in Wildwood"

I would guess that the newly built Wildwood overpass could handle two main line tracks. Wonder of Sumter County will get upgraded to two tracks also?

If US 301 and CR 44 got new overpasses why not CR 42?
.

Love the sound

For my dear hubby the sound of the trains brings back precious childhood memories. Just another thing he loves about this place.:super:

cgalloway6 01-13-2012 08:47 PM

The trains aren't very frequent nor very loud, at least in Tamarind Grove. I'd rather hear the train horn in the distance than the "pock-pock-pock-pock-pock" near the pickle ball courts.

senior citizen 09-17-2013 08:09 AM

This is a very old thread but I decided to research the train noise that Gracie is always referring to in the Calumet Grove area.......which I never heard at all during one whole month. My husband said he heard it faintly once at a distance. Not a problem.

My question: What is the "village" that is NOT part of THE VILLAGES at all, yet we thought we were looking at homes in THE VILLAGES until the salesman advised us that it was NOT.

It had one nice recreation center, one pool.....etc. and I think a golf course.

The homes we looked at were on a LAKE with a waterspout feature out in the lake and a small boardwalk or dock with a tiny sandy area on the lake.......

When we exited this development, and made a LEFT........we passed a HOSPITAL that had a totally EMPTY parking lot.....and then we crossed over some railroad tracks, turned around and went back the same we we came in.....and were back in THE VILLAGES.

What is the name of that development on the lake? THANKS IN ADVANCE. We just cannot recall the name of it.........but do remember the homes and the GAZEBO on the lake, etc.

The street that it was "off of"......was kind of rural......leading to those railroad tracks right after he hospital I think.......small hospital.

Bizdoc 09-17-2013 08:23 AM

I think that you were at Lakeside Landing (not a part of The Villages) and the hospital was Promise Hospital Oxford. Promise is a long term acute care facility.

champion6 09-17-2013 08:23 AM

I'm pretty sure you are describing Lakeside Landings on Rainey Trail (CR 472).

Rainey trail runs off of Buena Vista near Bridgeport at Lake Miona and Bridgeport at Miona Shores and that is where the new small one story Promise Hospital is for wound care.

Past Bridgeport at Miona Shores is Lakeside landings, but it doesn't have a golf course.

The only hospital I can think of is The Villages Hospital, several stories tall, which is pretty close to Stonecrest that has a fountain and a golfcourse. It is on 441/27 on the northside.

I think you are right....."Lakeside Landing" sounds very familiar.
The salesman had given us some literature which I no longer have, but that name is definitely it. So, that was the town of Oxford?

Somehow I thought we had ended up there by going over the bridge?
Maybe not. It was two years ago. Found it quite by accident. Thought we were still in T.V.

Thank you. Appreciate it.
