Taking the width of a cart forces all who want to pass to do so safely. "Sharing a lane" with a cyclist is not safe for the cyclist because given any unexpected action by the passing cart will instinctively cause the offending cart to veer right, into the cyclist.

As far as 'slowing down' a cart driver anything can slow a cart down, another cart, a loaded four person cart, walkers, dog walkers.

There is no reason any cart driver should lane share. Every cyclist should be passed by entering the opposite lane, regardless of the cyclists position in the lane. If there is not enough room to perform a proper pass then it is unsafe to do so.

Replace MMP with public road, carts for car and bicycle (ebike or bike) with motorcycle and you will know exactly what is expected of you.

Golf carts have the lowest priority on the MMP...Golf carts have to yield to all others. In fact, golf carts have the lowest priority everywhere with the only exception being the Visitor gate at the MMP crossings...but don't count on it.

Having these walking/biking paths that do not allow golf carts puts the golf carts in the streets with the large vehicular traffic ALL THE TIME. In the northern parts where I live (right around Lake Sumter Landing), the ratio of golf carts to walkers/bicyclists is overwhelmingly the golf carts. Maybe it is just the opposite in the southern areas but around these parts (north of 44), there are many more golf carts that are on the Multi Modal Paths than pedestrians or bicyclists. I'm glad the northern parts caters to the masses.

Yes, that is exactly how it is along the main streets (Fenney Way, Marsh Bend Trail, and Corbin Trail) south of the Turnpike.

Yeah, I agree. We do not own a golf cart and we only drive into the Lake Sumter area once every few weeks. We do not see many brave (or foolish IMHO) walkers or bikers on the MMPs.

Heck, we do not care if an area caters to the masses or not. We care if an area caters to our lifestyle. We love living in The Villages.

Not always. In the last 8 years I've seen cars, SUVs, and even a pick-up truck on the MMPs, one SUV even came through the tunnel by Liberty Park:1rotfl::1rotfl::1rotfl:

You know I don’t get it. It sounds like some people were drafted and made to live here in the villages. I’m a young retiree and focused on slowing my life down. What’s the big deal yielding to bikes, people or golf carts? Just slow down and wait until you can pass. Problem solved in one post, as opposed to 133 posts.
