It appears to be common in SOUTH Florida. Here is an article about it. I don't recall seeing any tenting around here in ten years.

I do know that my Villages home site was treated for termites and then a plastic ground cloth was placed before the slab was poured ..

Walter White’s venue was Albuquerque where I grew up and for business reasons am over there a week each month. I have never seen a house tented in Burque, ever although I am certain some have dry wood or subterranean termites from firewood stacked against them. The last house I had built there was in 1985 and I had the soil treated for ants when it had been dug out for the slab.

If you are ever over there you can get a tour of various scenes in the series. People throwing pizzas on the roof of his house has been an ongoing problem. 'Breaking Bad' fans have been throwing so much pizza on Walter White's house the owner is putting up a fence
