Default Garage door opening by what

Garage doors are opening through the Villages without being opened by the owners?

1 villages put in cheap for openers with limited codes
2. Scanner can read the door codes
3. Villages should pay to update all the openers to state of the art openers that can’t easily be broken into.

Where did this come from?
Mine has never opened except by me.

Can you please give us a rough count and tell us where this is happening because it's not in my neighborhood? Thank you.

I'll wait for your answer.

When we built in Fernandina our next door neighbor could open 10 doors on our block with his Romac. We installed a chamberlain with WiFi and have never had issues. Most-on our block had to have Romac come to reprogram. It happened to us as a new build in Pennacamp also

Our garage opener was doing the same thing. Sitting in the living room and hear garage door open when no one in our home opened it. This happened several times. Once received a call from TV notifying me that the door was open. I have since reprogrammed the opener and it hasn't happened since. Below are the instructions I received:

Hello,

As per our conversation here are your instructions:

When your garage door is being opened by a neighbor follow the following
instructions:

1) Erase the memory on your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station

b. Hold the paperclip in the pinhole until the overhead light goes off

c. Do this twice

d. Try your handheld remote, it should not work. If it does, repeat step 1

e. If you have a keypad continue to step 2, if not continue to step 3

2) Program your OUTSIDE keypad to your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station – just a quick tap in and out

b. The overhead light will go on and stay on

c. press the “on/reset” button on the keypad and the red lights will come on

d. slowly press the 4 numbers you want to use

e. the keypad will double blink and the overhead light will go off letting
you know it accepted the code

f. wait for the keypad lights to go off

g. press the “on” button and type your numbers in and it should work the
door.

3) Program your remotes to your motor

a. Use a paperclip to press the program button (pinhole) located on your
wall station – just a quick tap in and out

b. The overhead light will go on and stay on

c. Press the button on your remote you use to open the door

d. Wait 15-30 seconds; the overhead light will go off letting you know it
accepted the code

e. Press the button on your remote again and it should work the door

f. if you have any additional remotes:

i. try any additional remotes you may have, if they work there are no
further action needed

ii. if they do not work, repeat step 3 to reprogram

When you are opening your neighbor’s garage door follow the instructions
below:

1) Recode your remote

a. Press and hold the “+” and then the “-“simultaneously on your
remote until the red light blinks release the buttons and the red light
should remain lit on the remote

b. Press the button you wish to open your garage door (either the
plus, minus or zero button)

c. Now you are going to press any button on the remote for a total of
nine times.

i. This
can be in any order or combination you wish, this will be your remote code

ii. For
example press: plus, plus, minus, center, plus, center etc until you
reached nine times

d. If done correctly the remote will blink after the 9th press of the
remote and the red light will now go off letting you know it is no longer
in program mode and has accepted the code.

2) See step 3 above

PLEASE NOTE: We recommend that you program your remotes and/or keypad
either early in the morning or late at night to reduce the likelihood of
picking up unwanted codes.

If these steps do not work, please call the office and schedule a service
call with a technician.

I don't understand why anyone would not change the garage door code when they purchase their home.

Apathy and laziness. The same reason they don't re-key their door key.

The original garage door openers do not the "rolling code" technology.

When we bought (2013) it was mentioned the contractors had a "universal" code programmed into the garage door openers so they could move from house to house as they were working. It appears these codes may have accidentally been left on some openers when given to new homeowners. We did reprogram our openers, so we did not have any problems, but after about 4.5 years we started getting error codes on the red and green leds. It turns out the replacement circuit board was way more expensive then an brand new Chamberlin opener, so now we have a new Chamberlin opener.

Just remember some who buy here are not tech savvy, and are still using flip phones. So changing a code on garage door is not going to happen.

Your are so correct, every house but 2 on our block had a Romac. That why we put in our own opener.

Thank you. I changed mine because every time I opened mine, the neighbor's door, 3 doors down would either open or close. They changed their's also. Seems like the romac's don't have "rolling" codes.
