Replace. We did. Much brighter light, so much easier to see inside the garage at night. Easy to do yourself.

If it us a fluorescent, then you can just replace the bulbs with LEDs.

There are 2 style:
1 requires rewiring the fixture to eliminate the blast.
2 The other type just replace the bulbs.

Should be able to find these at any large home store (Home Depot - Lowes).

There is a kit to switch to LED only $20, had garage and laundry room switched and didn't have to remove anything, and that included the 2 bulbs for each fixture.

Replaced 2 of these in my garage with led fixtures. Only one of them had issues but I was so pleased with the led I immediately replaced the other. These cost about $15 each at Walmart. I guarantee that I will never replace another fluorescent bulb.

Same here.... put two up end to end where the original was - LED 4 footers from Walmart- cheap - I can now sun tan in my garage!

LEDs

You can replace the fluorescent light bulb with an LED light bulb in the fixture that you already have.
You have to check the fluorescent light bulb for the compatible LED light bulb. Home Depot carries them. I did this with the florescent light bulbs in my laundry room.

I took off the light fixture, added round electric outlet to the round box ,$6 so it would work off the garage switch, bought LED shop lights from harbor freight $25 a piece and they put out 5500 lumens , lots of light and you can add up to 8 as they can plug into each other

Retrofit Kit LED Tube Light Bulb 8ft, 36W, Magnetic Mount, Frosted

Very easy if you have small mount of electric skills. You just remove the guts and don’t have mess with the fixture frame. This is one design, several available, but basically same procedure. I like the one with the light tube rather than the strip 8 foot example you can get them in 4 foot also.

I bought 4 on ebay for $30.00 and love them. Instant on, low current draw, and they never burn out. The garage door opener has a movement sensor and it turns one of the lights on when you enter the garage. By the way, each one only weighs about 6 oz, they use a thin metal band to hold them.

Never say never, I had two leds burnout.
