10x10x10x10…or 10 to the 4th power.

FYI never eat BBQ chicken and this hit those keys. Your welcome...

I have accepted your request, and with some effort I found that there have been 9* posts emphatically saying the answer is 24.
Probably another 6 posts need to be posted.

Note: Not included in the above count was the one indicating 24.......that came after your post!

I guess I should have been a little clearer.

There are 10,000 combinations of four numbers when numbers are used multiple times in a combination. And there are 5,040 combinations of four numbers when numbers are used only once.

I agree! I just don’t like people telling me (and Google) that I am wrong. Just trying to make sure all has informed and accurate information! :icon_wink:

jfkilduff 01-11-2022 10:53 AM

It’s a math thing it’s 4 factorial

gmdds 01-11-2022 10:56 AM

However, if you take away all but the clean ones (4 of them) then 256 is correct (4x4x4x4…or 4 to the 4th power).

Nope... You're repeating numbers in your scenario...

StephenE 01-11-2022 11:44 AM

5040 combinations without repeating a number

villagetinker 01-11-2022 12:38 PM

Getting back to the original concern, when we moved in (2013) there was a comment made about a "universal" code programmed into the MVP openers so the trades could get into the houses to work. In any case we deleted all codes and added our own. I have replaced one opener with a Chamberlin unit that uses a rolling code system and will shortly be replacing the other.

At least 24 more times...

Nick B 01-11-2022 04:43 PM

Most keypads will lock up if you try too many times. Keypads are safe.

Lets face it..no thief is going to mess around with the clean numbers on your keypad. They will simply go to your front door and pu**** in. Our doors are not the strongest and the locksets and hinges arent reinforced.
You dont have to be superman to knock doors open in the Villages

This is a little off the subject but helpful anyway. A few years ago I came home to find all the power out in the area. The only way into the house was a key we had hidden outside. Some of our neighbors couldn’t get in their homes because they didn’t have a key. I now keep a house key in all of our cars.

Florida law requires that you keep your registration in the vehicle.

That's IF the lottery only used 4 distinct numbers from which to pick...

That's good unless the car is locked in garage power is out and you are outside the home.

MyQ garage door opener

Problem solved if you buy a MyQ garage door opener… open and close your garage door with your phone. Have repairman text you when they arrive then open the garage from the app on your phone…$29 on Amazon

rsmurano 01-12-2022 07:45 AM

I always clear the codes at the garage door opener when I move in. Easy to do because you don’t know who copied the remote code and I don’t care what the builder set on the keypads, I start over. Same goes for your front door lock. How do you know if somebody made a duplicate key for your front door? I switch my door locks out for smart door locks that I can operate by typing in a 6 digit code, being close to your phone to the lock, or by telling Siri to open it up. Actually, my whole house is automated so I can operate it from my watch and phone

When we moved in the previous home owner didn't leave the code but kept records of every thing done to the home. When I learned the previous owner had multiple contractors in the home I removed it and never replaced it. Don't see the need for them. Maybe later when I can't do things for myself and my wife.

It also gives the bust out who broke into your car the address that key belongs to.

Right. Glad I took a class in probability in college. Finally, I can use it.

Mleeja 01-12-2022 04:59 PM

After 68 replies, I am surprised no one has mentioned this. My opener is a craftsman. It allows you to set a temporary code that can be used once. You set this code and give to to the contractor. Personally, I would not allow a contractor in my house, or garage without someone being home, but to each their own…

That is great advice. Also when buying a pre owned home CHANGE THE LOCKS!
Who knows who has a key to your house

Babubhat 01-12-2022 08:10 PM

A solution in search of a problem. There would be a ton or burglaries otherwise

Not sure who is serious an who is not. I believe most homes have a quick set lock.
You can purchase a random key and set your locks to fit that key. You need a tool that came with the quick set lock.

In terms of security, posters being honest people think a criminal will come in through the door. The windows are far less secure and a criminal does not care about damaging your paint molding etc.

For those who will say the stand your ground law. It is not as clear as some people think. You need to prove violent intent.
