We recently had a power roll up put in. We wanted the breeze without the worry of snakes etc joining us for dinner. Lol. We live by a pond and have seen many.
I like the seamless look of the roll up. Some prefer the sliders. It’s all about Personal preference. Good luck

I have sliders on my courtyard villa garage, installed by Michelle's about six years ago. I can't imagine my garage without them. It's still hot, but nowhere near what it would be without the screens. They look great, require minimal maintenance, and I have no problem getting my car or golf cart out.

chrissy2231 06-17-2020 08:47 AM

They're great cuz leaving them down & house door open, a refreshing breeze will come into your house. Get up & down screen as they will be inside garage door. Sliders are outside the garage door and ruin the appearance of your home..

I have power roll up and would do it again. However, keep in mind that if you do power roll up you could lose a few inches of overhead clearance in the garage door opening, depending on how they install it. So be sure to ask about that before moving forward.

Absolutely; a no-brained.

ccrider 06-17-2020 09:12 AM

I bought my house with two power doors; one a regular garage door and one a screen door. Each door operates with its own motor and remote opener. Screen door allows for cooling of the garage, especially after driving the car. Probably the most expensive because you have to have a second set of tracks for the screen door. I would definitely do it. I don't like the sliders because you never really get the screen door out of the way.

Woelk 06-17-2020 09:12 AM

We put power roll up screens on our patio in Ohio 10 years ago. We loved them so much we put it on our garage in Ohio. Putting it on our Florida home was one of the first things we did. We used Michelle’s Hideaway Screens. The powered roll up are a very clean look. We can hit the remote at least 6 houses away and it’s up by the time we reach the house to pull the golf cart in without even having to get off the cart. :) I am not a fan of A/C. If it’s 80 or below the garage door is the first thing I put up in the morning and let the air flow through the house. We live in a courtyard villa and the model we live in the distance to exit out the front door is only a few steps away. To me pushing a button to raise the screen to exit the garage is not a big deal. I don’t know the cost difference between sliders and powered. Average powered is around $2500. Good luck with your decision.

neelie 06-17-2020 09:13 AM

Yes I used Michelle’s screens and I have roll up

Michael G. 06-17-2020 09:30 AM

I have one question.

What good are screens in garage doors anyway, manual or power?
Yes they let more light in (if you spend time in your garage).
It's just are hot inside the garage as the outside, so they don't keep the garage cooler in the hot periods.
When you don't have any, there's less expense.
Less chance of backing into a screen, (garage doors are easier to see).

Sooooo What purpose do they serve?

Harpermj2 06-17-2020 09:38 AM

1. Yes, I would do it again. I am having the golf cart garage done now.
2. Power operation- 3 remotes - used Skeeterbeater- screen is located inside of the garage door. The seal seems better than the garage door seal.

Yes, I would do it again. Having the golf cart garage done. Keeps the garage cooler. Used Skeeterbeater - 3 remotes for golf cart, and cars. Screen is inside the garage not on the outside .

One caution. My girlfriend backed her Ford F-150 into her garage to unload the bed and bent the bottom track of the screen. Too much weight. No longer did it open and close easily. I wasn’t able to fix it. I don’t know if this goes for all brands.

Absolutely do it again, power screen

PaulinTV 06-17-2020 10:08 AM

In case it would fit the bill for your intentions, we installed a Phantom side roll screen door on our entry door. It aligns with the lanai doors and gives us great breeze through the house when the weather tempers a bit.

Curtisbwp 06-17-2020 10:52 AM

Screen door

I do have garage screen doors. I was reluctant at first. I opted for sliders. I felt that roll ups would be another piece of equipment that was subject to failure. I have white sliders and I LOVE THEM. Private, no bugs and plenty of sunshine. I would do it again.

In the spring fall/winter, we like to open the house door to the garage, and on the opposite side of the house we will open up our sliders to our screened in lanai. We get a great breeze flowing through!

Rosebud1949 06-17-2020 11:51 AM

Screens yes, sliders yes, electric roll door NO.. why !! every time you want to go out the garage, other than taking the car or cart, you have to roll it up.. yes its electric, but sliders give more light more air, and you can pop in and out quickly if you need too, less chance for bugs to get in during the open/close process. Of course leds to go wrong if there is a problem.....

Marita Koziar 06-17-2020 12:43 PM

We had a power roll up screen put on our garage, and we LOVE it!! Definitely would do it again! It lets air into the garage, and keeps critters out. We don’t have a window in our garage, and it lets light in.

It doesn't take away any height of the opening, works off the same clicker as the hard door, is sturdy against high winds, and is trouble free. Highly recommend this product. Would def get it again.

Totally agree with everything you said. It is the best looking garage screened door around The Villages. It enhanced the beauty of your property.

Gmomlaura 06-17-2020 03:44 PM

I have the electric screen door and it helps keep the house cooler in the summer. I would never gotten the sliders because you have get out of the car to open and close and they are not locked.

Actually sliders do lock (at least mine does, can't speak for all the others) but a lock is useless because like ANY kind of screen door it just takes a pointed object to override the "lock" and walk in. Getting out of the car if someone is still home is a minor inconvenience, I'll give you that but if no one is home when you leave there is no need to close it.

Hint for those with SLIDERS to save the possible bending of the bottom track problem: As you drive in or out in your vehicle DO NOT TURN YOUR STEERING WHEEL FOR THE 1/2 SECOND THEY ARE GOING OVER THE TRACK. If you turn the wheels while they are on the track it will bend it. The dealer told us that and it's been 19 months and never have had any problem.

Quixote 06-17-2020 04:34 PM

Our home came with sliders, and I couldn't get rid of them fast enough. We found them incredibly inconvenient and sold them to someone who took them down and cleaned up where they had been. If I felt I had to put in a garage screen, I would definitely do an electric one; however, we don't spend time in the garage, so the door is closed most of the time.

Doglover9409 06-17-2020 08:07 PM

Yes! Absolutely. We love ours! Garage isn’t hot, we can see out without worrying snakes or bugs will sneak in, and we have the type that goes up and down like a regular garage door. Def worth the cost

Hello, ccrider. Welcome to the forum. Just curious where you got the idea for your board name? Seems I've heard it somewhere before. :icon_wink:

C. C. Rider 06-17-2020 08:29 PM

I stated earlier in this thread that I have and prefer the slider screens. However, I didn't mention the reasons why. Probably the biggest reason is because I go in and out of the house and the garage so many times per day. Sometimes it's to do some work in the yard or to inspect the shrubs, flowers, or whatever. Sometimes just to walk around the block. Sometimes to sweep off the sidewalk or driveway. Lots of different reasons.

Regardless the reason, it seems that I seldom take everything I need with me on the first trip. This is especially true if I'm working in the yard. I may have to go back into the garage 6 or 8 times before I get the job done and the tools put away... not to mention the trips back into the garage to get something cool to drink out of the refrigerator.

It's easy to slide the slider screen open just a couple of feet and slip back in quickly without letting all the bugs in. Besides, if I had a power overhead screen, that would mean something additional (the opener) I'd have to carry with me every time I went out.

The sliders do collect a little dirt in the tracks from time to time, but there's no worry about the electric going out or forgetting to take the opener with me. I guess it's a matter of lifestyle. If you're making lots of short trips in and out of the garage, sliders would seem to make more sense. If you just leave the house once or twice per day, then overhead power screens would make more sense.

Oh, as to not being able to get the sliders "completely" out of the way, that's never been a problem for me. We have a large two-car garage and I don't recall ever needing to move both cars into or out of the garage simultaneously. Not a problem, IMO.

dewilson58 06-17-2020 09:15 PM

I laugh when I drive by garages with screens.
Spend thousands and the garage is the same temp as the outside.
Why not insulate the garage and have it cooler than the outside???
Today, golfed until 1pm. Came home, opened the garage and it was cool.....almost like air conditioning, less humidity as well.

Screens are not fixing the heat issue........it's a band-aid.

You laugh but evidently you never had one. ;) Not sure where it was said it will cool the garage when it's 95 out because it won't but in the fall/winter when it's nice and cool out it cools the entire house without using A/C with the screen closed so no bugs, door to garage and inside windows opened.

It does provide privacy (if one has the privacy screen) during the day if you want to do "stuff" in the garage and not have to be locked into a closed in area with no moving outside air. I find it easier to do small stuff in the garage on the car or the cart or use saw table or do painting with paint with strong fumes with an opened garage door and the screen keeps out bugs, nosey people. the neighbors dog and makes painting safer. One could even start their engine without possibly dying if needed.

Whatever does or doesn't float your boat is fine but you really shouldn't knock something without experiencing it first. If you don't do anything in your garage then obviously it's not for you. There are a LOT of them around so many people might disagree with you. It is good that it makes you laugh though. We all need to laugh as it's good for the blood pressure and overall mental state in these crazy times.

We just had a power screen installed today by Lonnie Ashe from Cool Breeze and love it! Although I thought I wanted a slider, Lonnie told us that dirt and get into the slider tracks which makes the screens more difficult to slide. The screen lets in SO much light and fresh air! Wish we had done it years ago! 10 yr. warranty on the motor. Call Lonnie...888-896-8935. Tell him I sent you.

Have experienced with a rental.
Many disagree.........many more agree since most home don't have.
Talked to Cool Breeze.....many people back into the doors & CB get to replace.
(multiple service calls to the same house)
((now that's funny))

I use windows, lots of windows, to move air thru our home.
(without fumes coming into the house)

:coolsmiley: Unfortunately I have only 4 windows and a sliding door in our home so I don't have the same luxury as some others.

As for backing into screen doors (I hear that lame excuse all the time), I don't think the screen door is the problem I think the driver needs some serious help especially the guy in another similar thread who said he's done it 3 times.

rde3036 06-18-2020 02:43 PM

I have a Thumper retractable screen that the wife and I love. She likes to exercise in the garage in the early mornings without being stared at and I like it because it keeps, the bugs, snakes and neighbors out of the garage.

Troopie 06-18-2020 04:17 PM

Garage Screen Doors

I would definitely do it again. They allow us to air out the garage, and to work in it without having little critters come in. However, I would not have the kind that slides from side to side again. This is what we have, now and too much debris collects in the tracks. You also have to be careful about driving over the tracks so as to not damage them. I love having a screen, but I'd go with the kind that retracts from top to bottom.
