The black trash bags look more "dignified" than Walmart bags. We live in a nice neighborhood and I gladly pay for my trash bags.

Why don't the guys who pick up the trash take the pail too? They take everything that is put out on our block.

I prefer a designer trash bag we prefer the Vitton or Gucci brand they always stand out amongst others before getting crushed by compactor!

Yes, much more "dignified," as you say. But let me add a few things . . .

If the powers that be want residents to use black trash bags, they should provide them!

I'm sure you will agree there is nothing more "dignified" than when birds and other critters peck away at the bags and your secrets are all over the street.

I continue to use Walmart bags. The price is right and I am cheap.

Do you have any idea how much damage TV is doing to the environment by not providing trash cans as opposed to requiring residents to use plastic bags?
It's actually shameful!

We use a white plastic bag because that is what my wife bought lots of when we moved in.

Would prefer a can but when in Rome >>>>

Would it be ok if we painted smiley faces on the black bags?

from the Districtgov.org website - https://www.districtgov.org/communit...eRecycling.pdf

All household waste should be placed in a sealed
tall kitchen trash bag or 20-30 gallon trash bag (any
color). All materials can be placed in the same bag,
no need to sort! The trash bags should be placed
together at the end of your driveway, no garbage
cans/bins are allowed (they will be disposed of
with household waste). Each bag should weigh no
more than forty (40) pounds. Bags must be placed
for collection before 6:00 a.m. on your collection
day or the night before (no sooner than 5:00 p.m.)
Collection times may vary. Deed Restrictions do not
allow leaving trash out on undesignated days. Wrap
broken glass or other sharp objects in newspaper
and place them where they cannot cause injury.
For a list of holidays that may affect your normal
collection day, please visit DistrictGov.org.

If you would like to see the above guidelines changed, you are always invited to attend a NSCUDD monthly meeting to ask questions and or make comments/suggestions. I am on the board and would welcome you to the meeting!

How are plastic bags shameful? All our trash gets incinerated and turned into energy.

I have had that happen once or twice and I assumed they were trying to do me a favor assuming I didn't mean for it to be taken. I put it in a bag the next time - now it's gone :)

More than once, I've been out in the street & my front yard picking up wet flattened amazon boxes, small trash bags, water bottles, etc that had blown down wind from neighboring properties on trash day.
How unsightly & inconvenient is that to deal with?

I'd suspect a heavy trash can wouldn't be nearly as prone to 'relocate' its contents all over the neighborhood, but I understand the regs against them.

I do wish the The Villages has a centralized resident disposal area for excess trash/large items to be dropped off. It absolutely would make for a cleaner village. In the newly constructed villages, with people moving in, contractors still around, people unpacking, getting new appliances, landscaping being set up, etc .I've literally seen 6ft tall mounds of trash in driveways & yards, sitting out for days waiting for trash pick up...looked great! :/

Sometimes.

I think that mostly happens when it a new neighborhood and everyone is moving in. It has happened also when someone sold and a new neighbor moved in. I haven't ever seen it last longer than a day or two.

I guess I think that is an acceptable neighborly thing to put up with occasionally. It is was all the time that would be different, but in our neighborhood (3 years now) it is the exception, not the normal.

No where near as disturbing to me as the lawn care people driving massive diesel pickups with huge trailers to bring all the equipment they need to mow and edge my neighbors postage stamp yard. Then they complain about the high cost of diesel to drive all over mowing yard... ahem.

We put out bags every week, but not twice a week. We just don't use enough trash to need to empty the cans in the house that often. We also put the barrel out from outside, when it's full from a couple week's worth of grass clippings from the mower and trimmer, weeds from the garden, etc. But we put a plastic bag in the barrel first. And we tie the bag with the cover off the barrel. That's 2-3 times a month, less in the winter.

Our trash guys are terrific and seem to appreciate that we keep our trash to a minimum, unlike some people who have 4 or 5 kitchen garbage bags out there twice a week. Y'all use paper plates all the time or something? I swear I can't figure out how two retired older adults who don't throw parties can accumulate SO much trash all year round.
