Default Garbage Collection Fee Has Gone Up

Just opened my monthly Villages Utilities bill and noticed that as of 11/1 the cost of our garbage collection has gone up from 17.90 to 19.38 a month. Did I miss something? Was there any notice or mention of this price hike anywhere?

I know it's only $1.48 a month, but based on an estimate of 80,000 households in the Villages....That's a monthly increase of over $125,000!

Was discussed here on 8/10/2019 ->New solid waste charges are coming

NSCUDD will hold a Solid Waste Plan meeting on Monday, November 4, 2019 in the District Office Board Room at 9:00 a.m.

I would encourage everyone who is interested in trash recycling and costs in The Villages to please attend this meeting.

You also pay school taxes (and have no kids in school here) and amenity fees. Win some, lose some.

The $125,000 barely covers the cost of a new garbage truck.
On a side note for those complaining of the massive 2 dollar increase, have you seen how hard these garbage guys work ?
Definitely not a job I would want...

I wonder if the increase has anything to do with their salaries. I thought it had to do with the cost of hauling and dumping.

Well worth it having garbage picked up twice a week, that's a bargain.

Would you rather haul your garbage to the county dump to save a couple of bucks? Face it. The price of everything goes up. If you can't afford it, move.

You make that sound like a lot of money. Have you ever seen budgets in a community with 80,000 homes. 125,000 is small.

It's to cover their Sumter county 25% tax increase. All the other Sumter businesses will be raising their prices as well. So we the tax payer have to pay our own tax increase plus those of any businesses that reside in Sumter county. Double whammy.

From the online news:
"The NSCUDD Board recently voted to raise its monthly household assessment for trash collection from $17.90 to $19.38 for 2020.
That increase will be followed by nine consecutive annual increases of 2.5 percent.
That money will be used to pay for bonds previously issued by NSCUDD.
The monthly fee paid by Villagers has been at $17.90 since 2012."
