Default Gas to electric conversion

Has anyone done/considered/priced converting from gas heat/appliances to electric. If, in fact, some of the devastating fires caused by lightning strikes were fueled by the gas lines in the ceiling, would this be a cost effective option. I am still looking but tend to avoid the re-sales that are gas.

I have not done this but I would think that the cost of replacing appliances and the HVAC system along with the wiring and other hardware installation would be a very long payback period.
