I'm not sure that the letter is bogus. TECO does sell home warranties for indoor piping systems. Check out their website. The letter may be real, but, I think the warranty is a ripoff.

That's like water lines and sewer lines from the street. If one breaks you pay to fix it. If your going to have a leak in your gas line its going to be from lighting. Your insurance will cover it cause your house will probably burn to the ground. It's like going to the casino, who has the best chance of winning. Save your money.

They are trying to sell you an insurance policy, anything inside your home is your responsibility, electric, gas , water etc.

We do not have "plastic" gas lines in the attics of about 24,000 homes between CR-42 on the north and CR-466A on the south. This is corrugated stainless steel tubing (CSST) gas lines with a yellow covering to clearly indicate they are gas lines. It is thinner, flexible, easier to install, and cheaper than steel pipe. CSST was the subject of a 2007 class action lawsuit where the court found, "CSST posses unreasonable risk of fire due to lightning". The public had not been warned. At the time there was a six month window to obtain a voucher toward a lightning protection system. There was no product recall and CSST is used in over ten million homes across the country. South of SR-44 a second generation of CSST is being used that is supposed to be more resistant to lightning.

If you have concerns check with your regular home insurance company. Up north we get letters about our water lines to the house. I checked with State Farm and they offer a home insurance rider for the same coverage that is dirt cheap compared to what the water company wanted.

Save your money. Total rip off! Get a rider with your insurance company, if you feel you need it. Probably the same money or cheaper and WILL pay if you have a claim!

Even in Leesburg they will come out to relight your gas water heater again for a fee.

YES, YES, trash it!!!!. I got caught up with them and it took many,many, many phone calls back and forth to get it resolved!!! Messy, almost one year to get them off my back and get my money back. they just deducted money from my account without my permission. It’s a scam. Stay away.

Must utilities are responsible for the lines up to your meter then from there through your house is your responsibility. That been said it sounds like someone is looking to get you signed up for a maintenance contract.

Out of curiosity, why would you ask here, and not make a phone call to TECO ??
