Problem solved

We solved our gate pass problem or I should say our soon-to-be-daughter-in-law did. In a family with way too many English majors and other right brain people, or youngest son has the good sense to marry a left brainer -- a genuine engineer who notices little things like numbers and assumes they mean something. On the back of each gate pass is a number printed in tiny print. The numbers are the same for each residence save for the last. We could identify one of our passes by the chain, so we knew which was our other pass. We could also identify a pass from one of the rentals since it was attached to the keys for that house. And voila! the 2 remaining went to the last house.

Just shows that you can be sweet, petite, and beautiful, and still smarter than than the whole family you are marrying into!

I predict once residents become responsible for their own CDD budget (or whatever you call it) and we start to be overcome with costs and need to trim the budget, gate passes AND moreso gate guards will be history. I recently read someplace that gate guards cost approx $1.5 million a year today and expected to increase in the future. That would pay for alot of flowers on Morse and Buena Vista!!

In lieu of gate guards and gate passses, I would like to see residents have transponders in their cars allowing the gates to rise automatically. Labor costs would be cut dramatically. I mean they use such technology for tolls on major highways with Easy Pass why not here......

784 i'm just curious how transponders save money over gate passes....gn

They are not gate guards, they are gate attendants. The main function they serve is to give directions and keep the flow of traffic moving.

No, No, No

The date they get ride of the gates they'll be picking of body parts and parts of golf carts by the hour.

Why not use a bar code scanner similar to those used in some parts of the country? One on your car and another on your cart and no need for cards.
Only issue is that you cannot change to other cars or carts easily.

Don't really see why you need gate passes for golf carts, unless they are "street legal" and used on the roads vice paths.

There are a few gates that you need the gate pass or you will have to press the red button to enter as there is no room to get around the gate arm. The is one at the Delmar and Avenida Central gate and a few more on the north side of 466 that I have run into.

Yes, the gate passes are keyed to a particular home. Each card has a number printed on it. Check with the CDD office to see which pass goes to which home.

I live in Stonecrest and we carry transponders or remotes to access the gates. Really easy and quicker.

What is a Stonecrest?

replacing gatecards

Interesting. We were there in early November and realized one of 3 tenants we'd had since we were there previously must have driven off with one. 2 of the tenants replied to my email that they did not have it (would not have been a big deal to mail it back) and never heard from the 3rd one.

We went to the VCDD (located on Wedgewood Dr north of 466) and paid $15.00 for a replacement, but I don't remember them saying anything about deactivating the 2nd one and re-activating it, although maybe they did so. I think we did bring it along. Would kind of hope that they do, as a semi-security measure, although as we know it's not truly a gated community as the streets are not private.

I think I've said before that I think the real reason for the gates is to slow down traffic and make it safer for golfcarts. I've heard rumors that there are cameras at the gates to at least take pics of license plates, but does anyone know if that's really true or just a rumor?

l2ridehd 01-06-2010 08:33 AM

Without the gates, you would lose the ability to use golf carts. Almost every gate has a golf cart crossing just inside it. If cars did not have to stop for the gate, golf carts could never cross and that mode of transportation would be lost. So yes the gates serve a very valuable purpose. This is a golf cart community so the gates have to stay in place for that to work.

So I for one do not think they are a joke and do not want to see them go away.

Just wondering, are you a Villager?
