Default Gators and golfers

I stopped my car on my street the other day to gape at a golfer looking for his golf ball at the waters edge. There was a large gator about 30' away from him. The guy was clueless as he could not see the gator. I got out of my car and prepared to yell across the water for him to get away. (The water was between him and me) Thankfully the gator didn't move
towards the man,so he was able to go back up on the golf course with his body intact.. Mating season is close or has started for alligators. They seem a little aggressive and goofy during this time. Please be careful around all bodies of water as we have many alligators in TV. I think they are wonderful and I love watching them basking in the sun. If they attack someone or are a nuisance, they are hunted and taken away. We need to give them some space and respect their territory. For at least the next couple of months I will not be going to the waters edge.

Sam can you tell me where you watch them basking? Are they close to homes? Just curious.....Johnny

I thought some of the females in TOTV have been a trifle testy of late.

On a more serious vein, I do envy your location in having frequent opportunities to view these magnificent beasts (the gators!). I've only seen a few, always from a safe distance while I've been golfing, but there are actually some of our fellow residents who've never seen one and actually doubt that they're all over TV.

Muncle, I used to think the "gator thing" was just a little local color. I was so wrong. Not only do we have gators, we have lots of gators. There is a 9-10 footer that I see regularly.
I have pics of a 7 footer that suns behind the house of my neighbor directly across the street. We are on Lake Sumter.

They don't call'em "water hazards" for nothing!

For the very serious golfers - if the ball rests with XX feet of a gator, is that a Mulligan, a must-play or take-a-stroke?

Saw a small gator at Heron Executive Course on Thursday afternoon. Thought it was going to go on shore but just swam across the pond then stopped before it came to land.

not to worry gracie....many Villagers will tell you they've yet to see a gator in the compound; the ones I've seen have been in or on the shore of various ponds on the golf courses. Have heard only one story of aggressive behavior and that was a golfer who got nipped when he was focused too much on retrieving a ball out of water and not on what else was in the water. gators are not a problem here.

I don't know about that. I was behind one in the express line at Publix today. First she had more that 10 items, then waited until the clerk was finished to begin fishing for her check book. After wallowing through her purse (a very attractive golfer skin bag, I might add) for checks, she eventually charged it. It took forever. They're as bad as armadillos. That's a problem!

Sam, can you post a picture please? I'd like to see it.
Thanks!
