According to the Villages On-Line News, the man is in critical condition with head trauma at Ocala Hospital, and his wife is in guarded condition at same hospital. They are residents of Pennecamp Village.

I would like to see the same muffler requirements on motorcycles as cars. Some riders are so annoying revving up their engine all the time and running straight pipes or extra loud exhaust.

The point is however that we can't make everything super safe and often the cost of doing such things is huge. I think that the answer to golf cart safety is personal responsibility not some government problem. The way the government should get involved is by enforcing the existing laws.

Doc: You are spot on. It would benefit us all ( as a teachable moment) if we were presented with the facts/causes related to this accident. Anything else here is a waste of breath.

Last I read, the husband was in critical condition and the wife was in fair condition. The cart hit a curb and they were both ejected. The police are investigating.

Just the facts, maam....... Sgt Joe Friday.

I sincerely hope they both recover.

Anyone have an update on how they're doing?

NotGolfer 10-22-2013 04:36 PM

Update in today's paper, local section!

We all have doctors appointments, meetings, tee time and all sort of other things that require us to be somewhere at a certain time. I would agree that we should leave ourselves enough time to get to where we're going without speeding, but, to imply that we are all retired and that we just never have any place to go is insulting.
.

I agree 100%. There are also times that some of us may be rushing to get to a bathroom or in my case last week was rushing to pick up a prescription for pain meds for my wife. Just because we retire doesn't mean we all set back in a rocking chair and wait to die.

Sorry, I'm back in Tampa so I didn't get the paper.

The frowning face was not for the post - but because I'm not in T.V.

You need to review all the cart deaths in the past 10 years and maybe rethink your position. You can reference this info in the POA bulletin.

ALL of the deaths so far have occurred from ejection of the occupants and not from crushed roofs.

I have seat belts in both carts and use them every time (except when golfing).

In case anyone is not familiar with THIS particular curbing - it exists at an odd angle (jutting into the path a little) because of the proximity to the very large oak tree that was not taken down. I did see surveyors in that very section about 2 months ago and they took at least 2 days to do something but not sure what. Future plans maybe?

rockyisle 10-22-2013 06:08 PM

We love our seat belts - have them in both of our carts. I'd much rather take my chances with seat belts on than being thrown from a cart.

:coolsmiley::BigApplause: Yes, agree!! Don't need government intervention. BUT do need common sense!

Celebrator 10-22-2013 06:49 PM

Did you have them installed after you purchased you cart? if so would you please advise where you had them installed.

Thanks

Russ_Boston 10-22-2013 07:14 PM

Had mine done at time of purchase. Retractable.

Reflectors in the middle of the cart path would help in a lot of places that are dark and/or curvy.

I agree 100% ----- more reflectors on cart paths (for night-time safety) are needed.

I noticed a couple of days ago that yellow reflectors were in place on the curb on the path at or near where the crash occurred. Don't know if they were installed after the crash but I do remember not noticing them when we were here in August.

Golf Cart seatbelts

I have them on my Yamaha cart, installed after purchase at Villages Carts, $60 for set of 2 and it only took them a few minutes to do. When playing golf you can strap them behind you. I always wear them and insist any passenger does too.
