Shouting is not necessary.

It is a STATE law the 14 can drive carts.

We don't vote here in a CDD. ON ANYTHING. Something to know before you move here. So please don't move here thinking you can change things.

I have driven a golf cart on my last 3 visits to TV. Now I know where the wrinkles are coming from! :)

When I moved here 4 years ago I remember feeling a bit intimidated when I ventured out on my golf cart, and that feeling lasted for a few months until I became familiar with golf cart lanes, white posted entrances & exits, what roads I could and could not drive on, etc.. Now that I know the cart trails, rules, etc....I still venture out with care. It's a dangerous world out there even if you're familiar with it. I can't imagine someone turning their teenage kids or grandkids loose in The Villages by themselves....Just my opinion.

When I have rented in TV each home came with a golf cart. I have been very careful/conservative while driving these golf carts as I know the carts are not my property, nor do I want to risk injuring other people or myself. Just my 2 cents.

zcaveman 06-30-2012 11:48 AM

Does anyone think that these three teenagers are not going back home and brag about the cart roll-over and what a great time they had?

And they even have a picture to show for it!!!

paulandjean 06-30-2012 01:56 PM

Because thats what teenagers do. You must know that by now.Remember their brain has not fully developed until they are in their twenties.

I'd say the little souls nowadays don't reach full use of reason until their late fifties.

paulandjean 06-30-2012 03:40 PM

Have you seen the "Little Souls" that live here in the villages.

this was a collision of stupid, testosterone and reality!

I am going to work on a way to decrease the testosterone level at this age and switch it to my husbands age. I think I could make a million.

Golf Cart Picture

I am going to print a copy of this picture and post it next to my golf cart.It will be a lot easier to say no.I could not live with myself if I was responsible for my grandchildren injuring themselves or someone else just because I didn't have the b---s to say no.Right looking at them in the picture looking sorrowful some might say boys will be boys, however if one of them ended up in a casket, different story.

Couldn't have said it better myself. That is an awesome idea and one we should all follow. Kudos to you for hour suggestion!

Renting carts with houses

:police:I know I am going to get flack on this statement but here it is. This is living proof that you people that rent your homes and include a cart are idiots. My insurance man along with my attorney advised me NOT to include a cart in my rental. If those kids were badly injured, Grampa would be resposible.---Why expose yourself to that?:spoken:

You may not be popular with many who baby the teenage grand babies but you are wise in the rental advise. First thing out of my agent while talking about cart insurance. Who is driving it and are you renting it?

Myself and the wife and No was a correct answer

Lpierleo 04-04-2013 11:47 PM

I too believe the roll-over with the young men is horrible and thank goodness no one was seriously injured. However, to the point of this original post, I am more concerned about the younger children strapped into the golf bag staps on the back of the golf cart. What grandparent would even think of doing something so dangerous??? This is incomprehensible to me.

To All, I apologize as I now realize I posted this to the wrong forum, but now I can't find the one about the young kids on the back og the golf cart???

Found the correct post, but do not know if I can move this now. Jusy my two cents anyway.

Years ago, a teenager in my family was joy riding with friends in his brand new truck. He had an accident and broke his back. His parents had bought him the truck because he was the apple of their eye and wanted to give him everything. So then he got a brand new wheelchair for life. Getting killed isn't the only bad thing that can happen.

And then wax the car removing all the tar! And then told buy your own car and beat yours to death. Somehow I lived.

In my opinion, you hit the nail on the head when you said, " I think the difference today is very very few are held responsible for their actions."
As you and "bestmickey" indicated, the golf cart driver at least (not sure about the passengers to be honest) should pay for the damages to the cart-and should be OFFERING to pay, not waiting for the grandfather or father to suggest it.

Perhaps if people were held accountable for their decisions, there might be fewer opportunities to come up with more regulations to legislate safe behavior. Just look at the threads about golf carts going too fast, or people with small children on golf carts in dangerous situations. It sounds harsh, but perhaps "you got what you deserved" should become a mantra. My concern is for the innocent people who are negatively impacted by short sighted, inconsiderate thinking. Please note that I don't want to see anyone hurt, especially little children who are placing their trust in grandpa/grandma to keep them safe. Do the people who put kids in the golf cart bag well as they drive down the road really think this through and how they are violating the children's trust? (this is rhetorical)

Accidents also don't just happen. If you look at any accident, there was a condition and an action which led to the accident. An incident may not be intentional and we might not be able to avoid all incidents, but we can reduce the number of accidents if we start accepting responsibility for our decisions and ask ourselves, what could go wrong if I do "x"?

I had no golf cart to drive around. We rode a bike. Is there some reason why the little darlings can't get on a bike? Most could use the exercise too!!

Most accidents (at least here in T.V.) are caused by inattentiveness or some other circumstance. For instance, one happened last year because a person's hat flew off and their reaction was to grab it thus taking their eyes off the road.

The accident that happened to begin this thread were 2 young men who were "joy-riding" etc. etc etc. How many folks have heard of young folks joy-riding in a car and rolling it etc. You wouldn't hear the comment "so what, they were just out having fun!?" So why folks take acception when comments are made about poor judgement with golf-carts is beyond me!!

My Daily Run 04-05-2013 11:02 AM

my cart goes 20 miles an hour but I see and get passed by many cart owners who drive recklessly so what kind of example did they have. As the poster stated they passed her going very fast so did Grandpa reset it to go faster then the legal 20. Sometimes you get what you deserve. My big burly 30 year old nephew complained to me that he was getting passed by all these old people when he visited. I pointed to his car and told him that if he was in a hurry take your car...this is how we are supposed to roll and if they are passing you they are breaking the law and not getting caught !!!

jbdlfan 04-05-2013 12:19 PM

Everyone comments like this only happens because they are young and stupid. Pretty sure this happens quite often and the drivers are not young, stupid-yes.There are plenty of "granpas" crashing their own carts! At least the kids have an excuse(imaturity).

I witnessed an older gentleman going to fast, swerving, getting thrown out of his cart and getting run over by the cart in February. So it probably has everything to do with immaturity but immaturity can't be measured by age.

BobnBev 04-05-2013 04:23 PM

Actually, it's too bad they didn't get hurt...some broken bones, severe road rash
nothing life threatening. It would give them something to think about in the future. "FLAME SUIT ON"

You are correct when you say very few people are not held accountable for their actions and that is especially true with residents here in TV. It's not just the kids and grandchildren. Look at the videos of carts ripping through gate arms and look at all of the PVC posts and signage damaged and knocked to the ground. How many cart drivers do you think have actually stopped or offered to pay for damages they caused to the gate arms and/or posts?
