Treat golf cars/carts as automobiles. Both are supposed to signal when turning but many don’t. The reverse is also there where a signal is made and it fails to turn off after a turn. The question I have for anyone is would you pull out in front of a car or truck that has their turn signal on with the chance that they are actually turning? I don’t because just as many autos and trucks (especially) have the same problem and accidents occur by jumping the gun. Use common sense when you are driving or walking and lean toward the safety side of the situation.

My blinkers are so loud they're obnoxious. You'd have to be literally deaf to not not acknowledge them.

I have used loaner carts that, like the older carts, don’t have any indicators on the golf to let the driver know that the turn signal is still on. Sometimes, I remembered to turn it off and sometimes I didn’t. A lot of times I had to double check and I had both signals going to be sure they were off.

You should realize that you were driving in an older area of the villages and the carts are not self cancelling or do not have indicators to let the driver know that the signals are on.

Lastly, in the long run, who cares? I’m tired of seeing stuff like this that people think is important when they need to take a “chill pill”. Life is short. Be glad you’re not 6 feet under!

It’s worse when someone forgets to reset their turn signal & they don’t turn & you pull out in front of them. Yes, both ways are bad!

Turn signals on golf carts

Regardless, when you encounter another vehicle, never base your driving decisions upon turn signals. Always drive defensively. That means the other vehicle is probably giving you a clue regarding their direction, but might not be. Cover all of the possibilities and stay safe. Turn signals communicate likely direction. That is helpful to safety-conscious drivers. For example, never pull out in front of a vehicle signaling a turn toward your side of the highway. Their intention might be to turn, but a turn in a street or driveway just beyond your position. If you pull out in front of them every one is at risk.

Defensive Driving

When my Dad taught me to drive, he told me to look at everyone around me, think of the stupidest thing they could possibly do, assume they will probably do it, and be prepared to react. After almost 60 years, I fully accept the wisdom of his guidance.

Your article is pointless because you are embellishing about this whole situation. Yes from time to time this happens but not near as much as you claim. It's very foolish to tell people to stop using their blinkers.

I also always wait the extra 15 or 20 seconds for the golf cart to pass just in case. It’s NOT that big of a deal. Most new carts have self cancelling now and in time most will be. But just as I wouldn’t pull out in front of a car with their signal on until I see they commit to the turn, why would I do it in front of a cart?

BMW stopped installing them years ago... (ducks for cover...)

Trust me... Any time I use a "hand signal", it's used correctly. And it's deserved! :1rotfl:

Disconnected my beeper and drove around for weeks with my signals on. Reconnected the beeper.

Yeah I stopped to let someone who was taking a right, do so. They had their hand up to signal their intention.

Turns out, they were just waving to someone on their front porch next to the corner.

Hand signals are also useless at night.

Use turn signals correctly, and this wouldn't be a problem.

Luv my old turn signals with the obnoxious beepers. Never have to worry about leaving them on. Can not wait to get them off!!!

My 2016 Yamaha cart's self cancelling turn signals are silent and I want it that way. I do have bright yellow LED lights on the right and left pillars of my cart so I can visually see which turn signal is activated. Works great when they turn off like magic after I turn the cart.
