Exclamation Golfer almost killed by gator!

If true (and I can see no reason to disbelieve it)...this is pretty scary!

Alligator drags golfer into pond, gets foiled by putter; video | GrindTV.com

Quote:

“As I was walking about 5- to 6-feet away from the water I heard a splash, and as soon as I seen that splash I knew it was an alligator,” Aarts told WINK News. “I jumped, but he had me.”

The alligator grabbed his right ankle and started dragging him toward the water. Aarts fell on his back and rolled into the water hazard as he struggled to escape.

It also brings up the point that there are snakes out there too...just waiting to strike.

I personally have made it a habit to always have a club in my hand (typically a wedge because of its weight and short length)...if looking for a ball in high grass or near ponds.

This guy sounds like he got really lucky.

Whether it is true or not its a good reminder. We all make the same assumption that we will spot a critter before they spot us. I can attest to the fact that this assumption is wrong

I've seen guys taking pictures of gators on a golf course standing a few feet away.
Don't they realize how quickly a gator can move?

Yikes!

Guess I've been quite lucky on the courses so far.
The only thing I hit was a Birdie. No Gators yet.

Seriously, it is very wise to carry a club with you, esp walking close to brush and of course water. Hasn't happened to me yet though - always on the fairways and greens.

If I'm lyin' let lightening strike me right here and now.

Good job he didn't move his ball as he was taken. A penalty stroke as well would have been a bummer!
