Good Radio Station?
Hello--
My husband and I are moving to the Villages next year and wanted to know what radio stations were good down there? We visited a little while back and didn't pick up much reception in our car for some reason. What does everyone listen to? Thanks so much. -Janice D. |

If you listen to talk radio, 540 (Orlando) and 690 (Jacksonville) are the ones I listen to. Reception in TV is some what spotty, but I can still listen during the day.
There is a lot of interference in our house. The touch lights interfere unless on high. The dimmer switch on the fan lights interferes, so I just don't turn the lights on that have a dimmer. And, the space heater in the bathroom wipes out radio in the entire house. The local Villages station, 640, is good for the weather and information about TV, (The Villages), and I love 95% of the music they play.

And you should also be able to get the Orlando NPR station at 90.7. Sometimes when one is down (one seldom knows why), I turn on the other.
I should note, however, that I have these on only in my car. Since both separated their classical music programming out to the HD2 version, I still can't get it, except on-line. SWR

I did not like the reception I was getting on the radio, so I purchased a lifetime Syrius package for $500. I now have a subscription for life and I get about a 100 or more stations clear as a bell.
Pricey, but it was worth it to me as I listen to music 7 days a week. |

The local radio plays terrible music and runs FoxNews. Go with satellite radio.

FM 98.9 WMMO out of Orlando. Soft rock with a slant to oldies.

Radio
I like 98.9 FM too because they play mostly the 70's.

You can search for radio stations on the web and got to the radio station web site. Most have a "Listen Live" function that will give you crystal clear radio over your computer speakers. I listen to a few Florida radio stations at my home in Hawaii.

Sign up for XM Radio. They'll try to sell you the $13 per month premium package-- way too much in my opinion. After you turn it down, but before hanging up, they'll drag out the 5 months for $20 (total) deal. Hundreds of stations, many categories, crystal clear reception. Just covers the car radio, I believe. More $ if you want it on home radio, IPod, etc.
