When we were getting ready to leave Ohio and had several rooms of furniture that no one in the family wanted and we were very tired of carrying things, only Goodwill picked up.

That in itself is a service.

Read again what Challenger wrote above. This is a big organization and the pay would need to be competitive to run it well. Things aren't always as simple or as bad as they appear.

Goodwill - Watchdog.org

Well, yes, I see now that they have a non-profit status, and thanks for that info. It is interesting though that each store is independently operated for tax purposes. I also don't understand the million dollar salaries to many of the execs. I see new stores popping up all over the east coast. I can understand the Billions that they are taking in, with no inventory costs whatsoever. I remain skeptical of their recent strategies, and think I will favor the Salvation Army for now, for their profits go charitably to folks in need. Thanks, and I would appreciate any further information that anyone has.

I have been watching the building going up. Isn't it a beautiful structure? So happy it's not just a big metal warehouse. :BigApplause:

I agree.

Yes, Goodwill has changed over the years but their maim mission hasn't. They are still the premier job training/coaching organization nationally for the disabled and under priviliged. As a parent of a disabled son, Goodwill was the "employer" who provided the basic job skills that allowed my son to become an independent member of society! As an employer, I was able to have their employees do the repetitive assembly tasks that complemented my companies offerings to my customers that would have been outsourced to a foreign country.
Many years later, I still donate my unwanted items to them so they can continue their mission of job training/coaching. I hope you will too!

Peg, did you read this post by Cmfjr?
Surely this heartfelt story will convince you that Goodwill is a worthwhile organization.

A great place to donate is Bargins and Blessings in Wildwood. The monies they raise are for their Helping Hands project which is starting their 21st home this week. They are connected to New Covenant United Methodist Church. They refurbish double wide mobile homes for families in need. Something like habitat for humanity, only they furnish every room, dishes, pots and pans, everything including helping the people with budgets and just making things work in this life which is our own. They will pick up your donations. The number is 352 330 3333. The complete operation is run completely by volunteers..................

This is helpful, Ben Rays. Thank you.

I am gonna keep liking Goodwill.

Took several bags of "very nice " clothing to GW a few days ago and three pieces of furniture to Bargains and Blessings just before. I want to encorage and support all who have it in their hearts to serve others. Sometimes it takes a large organization and at other times it takes a local group which is closer to the action.

"As you have done to one of these"
