Grand Opening of Sugar Cane Recreation Facility
Yesterday was the grand opening of the Sugar Cane recreation facility in the Village of Desoto. Since we were not there to see it live, I had hoped to see lots of pictures...but have not seen any on here.

You don't see a lot of pictures of anything on here, mostly discussion. The Daily Sun should have archived photos and the story regarding the opening.

This doesn't really help much, but it is all I could find;

I saw somewhere that April 3 was the opening date. I can’t find the source now. I hope it is open while we are there the first week of April!

Won't be going there, too many owners don't bother with kennel cough or parasite control, those parks are nasty. Also be sure you have a Sumter county dog license you will need a copy of his rabies immunization to get one and from what I was told they do check in the dog parks.

We live in Osceola Hills where there used to be a lot of open space and we would see people with their dogs running without a leash. That has stopped. Every dog we now see is ALWAYS on a leash. Between our neighborhood and Charlotte, there is a small open area near the multi-modal path where some people congregate and have their dogs off leash, but I heard the neighbors have complained and it will be fenced off. That's life in TV. |

All dogs must be on a leash, you're taking an awful chance if you don't have them under control. I don't even open my garage door until my dog is leashed in fear that he might run after another dog that is passing by and when working outside he is on a 15 ft. leash to keep him well into our yard. I have had dogs run at him and me on several occasions because they were not leashed or under full control. One guy told me he will stay if he tells him too but was already out on the street before the owner knew he was gone. Our dog was attacked up north by a large golden retriever of no reason, just walking along and here he comes, bit him right in the spine and left a large hole in his back in two places. They paid for the vet bills but we and he had to put up with 6 weeks of pain and pampering. Any dog is capable of attacking another, this retriever was one of those dogs they take to hospitals to calm patients but I guess he just didn't like the smell or looks of our much smaller dog and several weeks later attacked another dog in the neighborhood, this time the police got involved and they no longer walked their dogs along the street so you never know what your dog will do.

I, for one, am excited to have a dog park so close to where we live. Our Rhodesian ridgeback/lab was born to run. Our corner lot is fenced in and he has plenty of space to run. However, the new dog park will give him and us a chance to socialize.
