Default Birdcage and Spas

So I am reading about bird cages and spas on these forums.

Are birdcages literally cages for birds or are they some sort of enclosure for a home?

And do spas refer to a hot tub?

A birdcage is a large screen enclosure off your lanai. A lanai is a back porch if you are from up north. And yes a spa is a hot tub.

only people here in The Villages call screen pool enclosures "bird cages". I am not sure why, or exactly where the term came from....maybe in the '70's when women were called birds......

I remember when I first discovered TOTV & started reading the various threads & posts & began seeing all the mentions of bird cages......I thought, gee whiz....there sure are a lot of feathered-friend fans down there. Took me a little bit to figure out who/what the so-called cages were actually for.

Birdcages are called birdcages because they resemble a birdcage. Also it's not just people in TV that call them birdcages

Don't forget to check the building codes. I think the code for a spa and a hot tub are different. I think one is in the ground (subject to pool rules) and the other above. The building codes will tell you what safety devices etc are required in your county.
