Boats stay out for days or more at a time and immediately freeze and often filet their catch.

What we get can be called fresh frozen. The one major exception I can think of is farm raised fish.

I think Publix sells a lot of farm raised fish and some wild caught fish. Some of their farm raised fish is labeled "never frozen". But, they don't label shrimp as "fresh" or "never frozen" or "fresh frozen". Sometimes they label shrimp as "previously frozen". When I buy shrimp, I always buy it frozen. It someone is selling "fresh" shrimp, they are probably not being honest.

Probably, but I would rather be invited over for a beer than see your name on a lamppost.

I didn't.

Has anyone been in contact with this guy and brought the steaks?

I guess it's a way to make a living!!

Typical scam. Just like “ hey, I just paved your neighbors driveway and have materials left over and will, pave yours for 50% less”. Scam. Scam. Why would you even think such a bargain for meat from a stranger who walks up to your door would be legit???? Did you ask the neighbors name and address? His name and company he was from? Was he driving a company truck? When have you ever heard of a business taking back steaks because the customer didn’t have room in his freezer?? Did you ask any questions??

Cash of course!

I'm fairly familiar with my Irish heritage and some awareness of the cultural existence of "Irish Travelers".

My question (& NOT an accusation in any way) ... is the term "Irish Travelers" considered pejorative in the UK? In Ireland, I've only heard them referred to as "gypsies" and that was probably used in a pejorative way.

Wasn’t that Jeffery Dalmer a few years ago?

You can ask to see their state permit.

"According to Florida law, individuals who engage in door-to-door solicitation activities that sell, lease or rent consumer goods or services with a purchase price more than $25 are required to have a home solicitation permit issued by the clerk of the court."

I had a business in Tampa before coming to the Villages. 2 buildings down from mine there was an outfit that did this as a business. They had 10-15 small pickups with a freezer in the bed. The building also had a detached cold box. Every morning the trucks would leave and return early afternoon. 2 to 3 times a week a tractor trailer would show up to fill up the cold box. As far as I know the business is still there. 15 year span we are talking about.

^ Persec. Concur. I don't even put stickers on my common-colored vehicle. No directories or white pages, etc. Never ever draw attention to yourself. Low-key, blend-in, head-on-a-swivel.

This is how one can be targeted for victimization. Make eye contact with every one you walk past, don't stare at the sidewalk with your Rolex on your arm and your Barney's bag in your hand. Get to know people before you start sharing personal details with them. Look around you before you step out of a store onto the sidewalk. Wait in the parking lot of the bank for someone to come out before walking into an unknown situation. Lots of examples of why some are targeted and others are not. How people behave in public is how one can tell who was former military or first responder, and who was a salesperson. A wise man once said, and I'm going to paraphrase for censorship purposes: Smile and be polite to everyone, but always have an immediate gameplan to neutralize them in the back of your mind."

It's a scam!!!!! It's been around for at least 20 years or more. They claim they were delivering to a neighbor, but they weren't home. Then they ask if you could take the delivery for them and pay for it, and your neighbor will pay you back. Or, they say they just delivered to your neighbor, but they have some left over they will sell cheap. None of this is true. And it could be horse meat, or meat long past it's freshness. DON'T EVER BUY FROM A TRUCK SELLING MEAT NO MATTER HOW CONVINCING THEY ARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

He was here Friday, around 5:30, giving me the same story.
I told him no and he should not be soliciting

These guys aren't stupid. My guess is that they know the $25 threshold in the state statute and proceed accordingly. As well as the lack of TV or county restrictions. This is why they still exist decades later. As long as you have the gullible...these guys will always be present!

FredMitchell 07-15-2024 09:15 AM

Perfectly fine. Only the good guys drive white trucks.

Is that like the cowboy movie where the good guy wears white hat the bad guy wears a black one?
